Speed challanged downloading

I, unfortunately, live on the edge of nowhere, not serviced by any landline based high speed connections and find the prospect of satellite based high speed access financially frightening. I really don't want to tie up my phone line for (insert time interval - hours, days, weeks, ...) downloading. If I'm really lucky, I might get something better than 28.8, weather permitting. Is there a way for me to download to another machine and then transfer using a cd burner or flashdrive.

I believe this link should help you out. Trust me, I sympathize with your situation.

Yep, you just need Stardock Central on both machines (you can get it from the downloads page here). It has an archive option that lets you pack up your downloaded Stardock software for transport to another machine. Once you tote the archive to the dialup machine, you can restore the software via SDC, and all you'll need to do is reactivate (which needs just an internet connection in general, even a crappy one will do fine).

One warning- archiving everything on SDC can clog up your HD- I had 10 Gigs worth of archives from GC2 patches up to DA...

May want to clean that out every now and then

Thanks for the help. My 'high speed' connection still only managed about 45-50 kbs(took about 3 & 1/2 hours to download the DA beta) but it sure beat the snot out of the 2.5 kbs I have at home(multiply that time by a factor of about 20 and think about it). Once I figured out where to start the archive from, I had no trouble at all. Got it home, loaded and extracted with no problems. Started a DA game using gigantic, abundant everything, very fast tech, as the Terrans vs. the classic 5 at the default difficulty setting. Everything seems to be going smoothly, so far.
