Build 5.49a[b].021

Crashes Stardock Central

Every time I try to upgrade to the latest build, 5.49a[b].021, Stardock Central crashes. What do I do?

are you doing an 'update install' or 'archive previous, and install the whole thing (new) again'?

you have an option to just update only those components needing updating - my 'update install' or have SDC archive then uninstall WB, then download and install the new updated version in full.

what version of SDCentral?

The lastest one. I always upgrade SD Central before installing any other updates.

Did you restart SD Central(after updating) before continuing? SD Central may have become corrupt if you didn't.

Yes I did. I have archived, and uninstalled WB. When I try to install, it still crashes. Should I uninstall SD Central, reinstall it, reboot and then reinstall WB?

Well, that didn't work. It still crashes when I try to install. Any other ideas?

From what I've seen I'd say start with uninstalling WindowBlinds (move your WB skins to a safe folder first - you don't want to lose those) then reboot and try to download and install WindowBlinds. I'm assuming SD Central runs of course. If SD Central hangs during download and install of WindowBlinds(at this point when you are trying to get a fresh install of WindowBlinds) then you may need to unistall it as well and start with a fresh install of it also. It sounds to me that you have some corrupt file or system registry problems. These usually can be cleared up.

I just saw your last message what crashes SD Central?

hmm, I am having problems also. my central is working but after reboot, windowblinds loads and then goes into a apply/disable skin loop with my monitor basically sluggishly blinking every second on and off. I can barely get to central and uninstall and reboot. after reboot everything is fine again. I had it installed right after it was released with no problems. but now whenever I try to install it, it will get into the above loop. for now I will wait for a more stable release.

the_great_deceiver: You have accidentally enabled both WB & aero glass at the same time.  To fix you needed to unload WB from WB config & then reapply WB.

it's really hard to do that when it loops. I will try again and see if I hit the right buttons at the right time. one of the problems is that when it blacks out the menus disappear that I've just clicked/opened and I have to start from scratch. I assume this will be fixed in the next version. thank you

ok, the scary part was that upon reboot I saw my first vista blue screen (no error messages, just a nice blue and a scratchy sound from my speakers as well). it showed up right before the windows logo and the system rebooted immediatly. after bypassing safe mode it started up fine. I wanted to know if the blue screen is not just a one-time glitch and I repeated the scenario and did exactly the same I did last time (uninstalled, which we know didn't solve my problem). I reinstalled wb, rebooted and got the blue screen again, it rebooted and this time I unloaded wb from the config window, closed it, opened the config window again and enabled it. it is working fine now. looking forward to the next release. thanks for helping.

I reinstalled SD Central, then tried to install WB from scratch. Nothing doing. Still crashes SD Central about the time it gets to 83%. Some dll is not happy with my system. I restored WB from a previous archive, but I cannot upgrade it! Help!
