Did the ship combat engine change?

I've noticed that armour seems to have no effect in the game I'm in right now. I've created ships that have armour of 32, but the dregin with their super dominator ships, which have an attack power of 2, simply ignore my armour.

Another thing I've noticed is, that ships are getting extra attacks. It seems that if a ship deals enough damage to destroy a ship, the extra damage moves to another ship.

Could someone confirm weather or not these are bugs?

P.S. I can e-mail some files if you need them.

Damage is now targeted on a per-weapon basis, so ships with multiple weapons can now target a new enemy with the remaining guns if the first enemy is destroyed. I'm not sure how defenses are currently working (or not) in the present build, though.

Thanks for the speedy reply.

I'll run maybe a game or two to see if the defenses are working. If not, I'll send in a bug report.

I'm getting the same problem- My ships have overwhelming armor, out the Korx had more, lighter ships. They took me out without taking barely any damage themselves.

I know the attacker no longer has the advantage, but if my fleet's armor is better than their fleet's damage, shouldn't I win?

If they had mass drivers yes you should. If they had other weapon types, no matter how small then it will depend on the armor level - GalCiv2 enabled other offense & defense types with a value of the square root of the offense or defense system. eg shield value 4 also had a value 2 against mass drivers, a beam weapon of value 4 effective against armor as a mass driver weapon of value 2.

Dont know if still applies as they have changed the combat system for Beta 1A and we dont know what it is now.

If would be very handy if someone from Stardock could explain the new system, so we know what we are testing - a Beta Sticky ? The combat system is one of the most emotive things in GalCiv with players and it will be zoomed in on when DA is released. It needs testing almost to extinction to iron out the slightest bug to prevent negative comment on DA release.

Difficult to Beta Test it tho unless we understand precisely what it is.

What attack values did your ships have, and what was the enemy's defence like? Don't forget, that no matter what your defence is like, the enemy can get 'critical hits' that do 5 damage. If the battle was long and drawn out, and both sides had few hit points and poor weapons, its not hard to imagine that it came down to luck. They simply got more criticals than you during the fight. We'd need to know all the other stats to get a better idea of what went on.
