Spy problem in 1A?

After I heard that the 1A beta was available I immediately went and downloaded it. I booted up the game I'd been playing, but when I tried to place an agent on a world it wouldn't let me. Now, I know they don't have the Super Spy (it was the Drengin and the Arcean) and I could click the Spy button and see the planet. But I was unable to actually place an agent on anything.

Note: Most of the stuff was upgrading at the time, but there were buildings that weren't.

If the game you booted up was pre-Beta 1A that would probably explain it. As a generalistion you should complete a game before loading updated code or you can get unexpected side effects. New versions are not always backwards compatible with existing running games for obvious reasons.

I'm having the same problem with spies and it's probably due to the reason explained above since I have followed the advice posted to me as to how to place the agents. I'll have to start a new game to find out, bummer.

I started a new game with beta 1a but cannot place agents as well. Seems to be a bug specific to 1A beta.

Nope. not getting spies working for me either. I can 'build' them just not use them. The place button stays unusable.

On closer inspection this appears to be an issue with only Metaverse games, not the normal games.

My current game is a normal game, not metaverse. I'll give a metaverse one a whirl when done and see if I get it then

I started a new game using 1A and the agents work fine now. Somehow the upgrade messed it up.

Do not play saves from prior versions during the beta, as this can cause strange issues which do not exist in 'clean' games. Finish your old games or abandon them before updating.

Nope this is a new game. Been around too long to know that one

Going to try deleting all info from my docs and restarting again. Will let you know the outcome.

Ok i found the issue i believe. If you cannot get the spy ablity to work in beta 1a please delete any save game, custom race and the prefs.ini from 'my docs/mygames/GCIIDA' This should rectify the situation.

It is probably the custom race that is causing the issue.

Whilst the above worked for a short time i returned to my Metaverse game last night only to find that the ability to place spies had stopped working again. This appears to only be an issue with MV started games though.

Savegame avail if required.
