New WindowBlinds user here

Why won't some of them load?

I just got my new HP w/Win XP Media Edition and I've been playing with skins. Some won't load into WindowBlinds and give me the error message: "There appears to be no .uis file in this skin. Are you sure it is a WindowBlinds skin?"

There are others with the extensions ".desktop" or ".dxtheme" that don't even appear when I try to load them.

As I said, I'm new to this, so I'm sure I'm missing something simple. But could someone please tell me what that simple thing is??

Thanks so much!

Those are DesktopX themes and require DesktopX, not Windowblinds to use them.  You can find more information about DesktopX here.

Asked and asnwered...

"There appears to be no .uis file in this skin. Are you sure it is a WindowBlinds skin?"

This used to throw me too. Usually it happened during my Download-and-Install process, with the older versions of WB and older skins/themes. I got into trouble if I D/Led a skin and then opened the .zip file or messed w/it on its way to the themes folder in WB. Sometimes it occurred if I tried to rename the file to ".wbload" or something else. The new downloads all are self-installing, and should just appear as a Windowblinds theme file at point of download. I put mine in a folder I made called My Downloads. All I do then is click the new theme, as downloaded, and it pops up a tooltip in the systray after a moment, asking if I want to install and run the theme. Click O.K. and that's it! Some skins seem to contain errors where they just won't run, even though I can find a .uis file in the folders...

It all takes a bit of getting used to. Have fun! Welcome to a whole new world!

Ever updated Winrar or as that ilk? After WindowBlinds had installed? I believe it was due to WB cannot recognize .zip extention successfully.

Thank you all for your replies!

Fortunately, Island Dog, I have Desktop X, so I can use that with the "other than" files.

And I do have Winrar, Celine, so I'll try that, also.

BX, I have WB 5.10 enhanced, full version. Just got that the other day and couldn't wait to try it!

seldomseen, thanks for the great information! I'll definitely give that a try! It surely IS a whole new world!!
