I just placed an order for GC2, and while awaiting its arrival have been playing the demo.

It seems that I need to install Stardock to do many things on this website, but should I wait until I install the full-strength GC2 program before installing Stardock? Or can I go ahead and install Stardock right away?

You can install Stardock Central (SDC) right away. It's not required to do anything on the website, however.

The one thing it provides that you can't otherwise get is access to beta releases. Also, final releases are generally available on SDC a day before the standalone installer.

No reason not to install SDC right now--you can also get demos of other games to try out while you wait for GC2, and if you received your GC2 serial key in advance by email (or a temporary one), you should be able to go ahead and download the whole game before the box arrives if you want.

Thanks! I cannot wait until it arrives. The demo is really REALLY short!!!! I wish they made it just a LITTLE bit longer (haven't even gotten to the point of building any interesting ships).

I recommend you get the demo for Space Rangers 2. Keep in mind though that there is a built in turn limit that does not reset when you start a game over. In fact I duly recommend buying 10 tokens, 2 for Space Rangers, 3 for the pre-order of dark avatar (you'll get access to the beta which I hear will be like what the expansion was intended to be before they added more stuff) and then 5 more tokens to spend as you like. It's a 4100 value for $70.
