Space Pirates?!

I bought and installed GC2, and noticed my video card had died in a software complication. Before I got that fixed, I tried GC2 out on a friend's computer. My friend patched it, and said the updates were great. Now my card's fixed, I have my CDs and CD key back, and I can't update the game.

I thought GC2 *was* multiplayer. Oops. My friend forgot his e-mail, too. Oops...

I've never had a problem with CD-required games, or a significant problem with CD keys, but I didn't know what I was getting into with this one. I've never cared to find and use duplicate CDs or key cracks either. This is just too much work to get an update patch.

If your friend registered the serial to his account (most likely since you have to activate to patch), then he for all intents and purposes now owns that copy. A serial is needed to use the patches, and can only be registered to one email address.

You *might* be able to sort things out and have it transferred to your account if both you and your friend contact support@stardock.com together with the details of the situation.

Or, if GC2 is the only Stardock product he has, you could just have him go to the 'My Account' link at the top of the forum, then to the Personal Information page, and change the email address and password for the account to yours. Then you can just take over his account, serial and all.

Now I understand what some of you meant by "misleading" posts. And here I thought there was going to be something juicy about pirates or something along that line! Dammit!!!!!!  AAARRGGHHHHH!!!

Yeah, I thought he was going to complain about getting his butt handed to him by the weak pirates in the game.

Thanks for the info Kryo, I hope that will make it easier to get my game back, but I doubt it. Could you tell me how much another serial costs, and if future Stardock releases have (or will have) similar ownership policies (such as the expansion thing for GC2)? I use a handful of computers, and I'm going to have to avoid this kind of hassle.

I'm not sure what the cost for a serial alone is, though I believe it is less than a 'full' purchase. You'd need to contact sales@stardock.com about that. To my knowledge, Dark Avatar will be handled the same way license-wise.

FYI though, you are free to install and update the game on multiple computers if you own them or are the primary user; you just need to have the game registered to your own account to do that. In fact you can download the entire game at any time or place via Stardock Central once you've registered.

Thanks again, I wasn't clear on how that worked from the other posts and various website areas I examined. Hmm. I guess that could be allright...

Could someone help me find the 1.00 patch for now? It's going to be a while before I can get the account hopefully switched over.

There is no '1.0 patch'. That's what comes on the retail disc, v1.0.
