Question: Can you ask a race to surrender?

As the title say, I have almost annihilated the Thalans (only two planets left) and I was wondering how I can ask them nicely to surrender?
I have had occasions when races that I am attacking have surrendered, but it seems random and, more often than not, they surrender to another race (which really pixxes me off no end!)

Thanks

No, your only option in the trading screen is to surrender to them.

So, don't click the surrender option if you want to stay in the game, as some of us have done (usually only once). It is a sobering thing, when they accept your surrender.

That's exactly what I did...  hence my question.....

I've thought about having this option as well. Could be something stardock could think about putting in DA.

Yes - just ask them to give you all their remaining planets in exchange for peace. It can work if you are dominant enough.

This would be a great thing to be coded in, although I suppose asking for thier remaining planets would be the same thing. Not that I have even finished my first game yet (just got it on Sunday), but my experience with other TBS games (Civ 3, Star Trek BotF) is that the AI will never give you thier home system, city, whatever.

But hey what do I know? I am probably the noobiest noob here!

Yes... I wonder what they were smoking when they added this "feature".

It can be quite annoying, especially when fighting more than one war at once, ie fighting a really weak race on the brink of losing and a really strong race on the brink of wiping the galactic floor with you. It would be nice just to ask the weaker race to surrender and...if successful...pour all resources into not getting your butt kicked into last week by the stronger race.

While there isn't an option to ask for their surrender, if you can destroy ALL of the races military ships, you can get all of their planets in exchange for a peace treaty. Great way to conquer a race without having to take over all of their planets!

Can you even do that since the value of AI planets was boosted so high in recent upgrades? Doesn't seem too likely.

I can do it with version 1.31. The key is to take out ALL of their military ships. If they have even one defender with an attack of 1, you won't be able to get all of their planets.

I have wondered the same thing.

I tried it once too, just to see what would happen.

It certainly seems like a twisted joke played on us by the devs.

Why in the world would I ever want to surrender to anyone?
It is simpler to just exit the game and start a fresh game if it gets that bad.

And to not have the matching option to ask for their surrender seems just so brain dead.

Just a quick followup on my original reply. My idea seems to work on Medium galaxies, but not on larger ones, I assume because races will typically have more planets. In these cases I offer them a peace treaty in exchange for 50-75% of their planets, and then on the next turn attack them again and take the rest of their planets. Still easier than invading each planet, and gives you an instant boost to your taxpayers!
