Locking political posts?

Locking political posts?

I'm just sort of curious why the GalCiv moderators are locking political posts?

I read through the one on Chavez and the one on Republican pedophiles. Neither was especially offensive, just spirited debate. Some people were more mature then others, but it wasn't even close to a flame war.

Sure, there's probably better places to discuss this sort of thing. But why the phobia over political debate in an off-topic forum? It would seem that in a democracy, it's a positive to have people discussing their ideas.

In any case, I propose changing the name of the off topic forum to something a little less risky. How about "the weather" or "famous celebrities"?

The JU forums are for the most part unmoderated, and it's intentionally that way (lest we be accused of censorship).

Just 4 consrvatives with no lives sitting there flaming all day.

There are people of all viewpoints there, with flamers on both sides. That's what happens when you have a forum where everyone is NOT all of the exact same opinion (which seems to be what you're after). It's like putting a badger and a groundhog in a box together.

You do have the option of starting your own blog (blog postings are also shown on the forum), and blocking whoever you [don't] like from replying on your threads, or you can just seek out a forum populated only by those of like opinion to yourself.

Anyway, now that you've seen what it's like there, hopefully you can understand just why we don't want those discussions *here*.

I am quickly losing respect for Stardock in those forums.

S1Genocide... Just let it go. Stardock is a game Developer. I doubt they really care to wade into the politcal arena, since the problem with wrestling a pig, is that bystanders can't tell you from the pig - My respect for Stardocks has grown since they took the stand to keep politics out of this forum. The call Stardock made for not moderating the JoeUser forum takes guts and backbone it should be commended- (look at Google's Youtube- ditching conservative content but keeping Liberal - can you say bias?)

Never heard that one Kryo- I'll have to remember it. Keep up the good work.

Fine with me, kill all politcal and religous topics. I get enough of that crap from my wife Hehe, you can kill this one now.

Wouldn't the badger just eat the groundhog?

I followed the link. It's like being locked up in a room with Ann Coulter. It was just awful. I guess some people just like the confrontation, the topic hardly seems to matter. It's just the excuse people use to denigrate each other. It certainly takes all kinds.

to stop any kind of potential misunderstandings:

update: Youtube has reposted its banned political content, due to a writing campaign.

Would have edited my post but it wouldn't let me...
