Alpha release schedule

There are 4 main items we want to get into the last alpha. As a result, we may break it out so that there are two moer alphas so that you don't end up waiting too long.

Here's what they are and we'd love to hear your thoughts on it:

1) Saved games
2) VERY basic diplomacy - i.e. you don't start out at war anymore but instead wars begin and end based on military necesity.
3) Various ships, improvements, technologies filled out so that they mean something more.
4) Pop up news item to help take you through your empire when new things are being done.

Saved games are jsut about done. The other 3 things are in progress but not quite done.

So what we might do is early this next week release it with just the saved games done and then release another alpha the following week with the other items in place.

What do you think? Should we just wait or should we break it out?

I think this is a very good plan. "Saved games" is going to be difficult to test and
should get a lot of exposure time for testing. There are many things that can go
wrong with it in so many ways that need to be tested for that the sooner we can start
testing it the better. :)

Here is a thought I would like to share that may enhance testing of shared games --
Fill us in on the format of the save file, or provide us with something to view it so
we can check that everything that should be in it is there and correct. Just saving
and loading a game may be insufficient to verify the function and there may be
(undoubtedly will be) too many combinations for the main crew at Stardock to test
for. Perhaps this idea is too late, but maybe you can use it another time on
something else.

Cheers,
Jack

I have to agree with you on splitting up the alpha tests that way you are not over loaded with wait problems your looking for.

Best of luck

Splitting up the alpha into two sounds good. It will allow us to focus on the saved games seperately while you continue with the other three items.
