First, bootskins are only 640 x 480 resolutions. Take whatever wallpaper you want to use and size it to 640 x 480 then convert it to 4 bit.

All bootskins are of low picture quality becuase of the Kernel only allowing 16 colors.

"dithering' to 16 colours doesn't work 'well' for every/all images.  It depends on their original palette [not numbers of colours in total...but variation of colours used].

Eg....greyscale the image first...then dither....and the results will be 'better'...but not in colour [obviously].

The 'trick' with bootskin/image choice is to find/make one that doesn't suffer too much through the dither/reduction process...

I went ahead and made a boot using your wall. Check out the preview below. If you like it contact me via email and I'll send you the .bootskin file. Oh the dither is set to 92% in case you're wondering.

Hello,

I tried to make one bootskin to and I thought I succeeded.
I made a greyscale out of a 640x480 picture I designed.
In Corel Paint Shop Pro I reduced the image and the progressbar to 16 colours (4bit).
In SkinStudio I dithered them and saved them again.
I copied the files with an altered bootkin.ini to a map in C:\Program Files\Stardock\Wincustomize\Bootskin\Skins
In BootSkin I choose my bootskin and tested it.Al worked fine.
Other bootskin were already in use without problems, but since I'm using my own skin,it does not worke anymore.
During the reboot I get a blue screen and some messages and the system reboots again.
I noticed that my problem occurred with other user aswell in completely the same way.

I think during the designe-fase we do something wrong so that the skin triggers a failure.
It seems to me that the tutorial says something wrong, wich we are all reading.

Does anyone know what to do exactly and would he publish it please so that all of us who has these problems can use their own skin's?
Like I wrote,the other skin's from the web workes fine.Our own doesn't.

First, next time you have a question create a post of your own. This way your problem will get the attention it deserves. It also doesn't hijack the original post you are commenting in.   Now to your problem.

Have you read this tutorial? BootSkin Tutorial It's for photoshop, but the concept is the same when using Corel.

This tutorial is what I originally learned off of. You should have no problems if you follow his directions.

You could always upload your file and link it to see if someone can find the problem.
