DARK AVATAR : Oct/Nov release or after xmas?

Because not everyone reads the journals

Frogboy September 29, 2006

So really the first question is - would users be willing to wait until AFTER Christmas for an expansion pack if it had more features? Or would they prefer the original expansion pack concept? OR would they be okay with the expansion pack after Christmas as long as there was a beta program for those who pre-ordered it before Christmas?

Frogboy posted this in the Journal section of this website.

He wants yr opinion.

Not everyone reads the journals so I am bringing it to everyones attention.

Please select 1 of the 3 options. Thanks.

For what its worth I picked, expansion after xmas but with a beta for those who pre-ordered like me.

You can read my thoughts on this at The Galactic Core. I am not willing to post them here as they may not be viewed well

My vote goes for option 2 - Release the original Exp as we all thought they were going to do when we pre-ordered and then update it or even release a further exp after Xmas. Realistically we are looking at March for release i guess and 5 months seems like too long a time for a computer game. Esp seen as the lifespan for a game is around 5-6 months tops these days.

However saying that i would accept option 3 - the beta.

This needs to be a poll, imo the best way to get the opinions of the community on this.

For what its worth I would vote for a expansion after christmas if it came with more features and if those that pre-order (at any time) getting access to a beta copy.

I haven't put money down for it yet, but I vote for later with more features vs. earlier with less. I don't care one way or the other about a beta, I'll only play a "released" version anyway.

BEFORE XMAS

To add a couple more features I would give them a month, but longer? No way. It was announced months ago, and we've been waiting. Who wants to wait another 4 months when we expected an imminent release?

I'd say that we shouldn't lose the opportunity to get more features for the same money.
If they need time, give them time. Nobody wants rushed products, right?

thats spot on e-stab  i'd love it to come out now, but id rather it was what they wanted and expected it to be after all their work, coz after all you can expect and want all you like but we're not making it so how can we moan.

They can always patch new things in. I say release before xmas. Only way I'd wait till after was for MP.

I vote fo the first one. Add the features and release the xpac when it's ready.
Im just hoping theese new features include lots of new diplomacy options.

I'd prefer before X-mas release as mentioned for the last several months. If it's not going to be released for another 5 to 6 months [March?] I would hope it would have some major additions such as tactical space and ground combat, better diplomacy and minors that actually do something.

I vote release early and give a good patch after Xmas! My attention span won't last through a post Christmas release with so many other great games coming on the market. I will come back to Gal Civ in about February. However having the DA expansion during the early winter months when I am saving up money to spend and travel during the holidays would be ideal, as I won't be splurging on untested games. Instead I will purchase something that I know will give me several months worth of entertainment, Dark Avatar (even as it currently is represented).

Irish, you're right. We're not even sure what these extra features are. The vanilla game seems so boring now. I've been playing it, while imagining the extra features, which makes it seem a little flat. It's felt like waiting forever already. I don't think I can stay interested in it, and if I take a break I can't guarantee I'll feel like playing again when it finally does come out. If that happens I'll cancel my pre-order, because I'm not going to pay for something I'm only half-interested in using. I suggest a poll for the website (with fair answers to choose from - see my reply in Frogboy's journal entry for details).

I don't mind waitin a year, if it's worth it!

Yeah... IF its worth it. But to wait a year I would expect something 200% better than the vanilla game. I haven't seen a list of the new features yet. They might be a load of kack.
