Bug: OB disables TV on ATI AIW

B 2.00.009 disables my ability to view television on my ATI AIW 9700. Basically I get sound but no video. Had a similar problem with earlier version of Natural Desktop, which I reported, and was fixed in current version. I am running the current versions of XP Pro and ATI drivers. The betas did not have this problem.

ps. I LIKE ObjectBar....have been waiting for this release for a long time....thanks for your work!

Larry

Hello Larry,

I am passing this along to our technical support. They will get back with you as soon as possible.

Thanks,

: This is unfortunately a problem with the layered windows api that both your All-in-wonder software uses and that ObjectBar uses. The issue is intermittent, so it is possible you hadn't seen this previously with ObjectBar. Regarding Natural Desktop, I don't believe anything directly related to this problem was addressed in any of the updates.

If you launch Stardock Central ( http://sdc.stardock.com/sdcentral_setup.exe ), you will find Natural Desktop under the Misc section. If you select that application and click the "History" button on the bottom panel, you can see all of the changes. This same feature is available for all of our applications. (That's how I know what new features to look for when an application is updated;))

Thanks for your response, Mike. I recall having a discussion regarding the Natural Desktop/ATI AIW conflict prior to the current release. Does this problem also impact other PC TV viewers? Is the API fixed in Vista? Regards, --Larry

If you run WindowBlinds 5.01, does the problem go away?

I believe vista dropped overlay support, so I would assume those TV apps will not even function on Vista.

I am currently running WB 5.01m(b)...no beneficial impact. Also, the current OjectBar causes errors when I try to run "Epson Scan", the program that drives my Epson Scanner. They disappear when I unload ObjectBar. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news..... --Larry

The latest versions of the ATI AIW software have the Tv on Demand feature turned on all the time with no way to turn it off. That appears to be a problem. You need to change the registry to turn it off.

1. Open regedit.
2. Go to
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\ATITechnologies\Multimedia\Features\DTV\Channel Manager

3. Set the key "LiveMode" to value "1" .

At least that works for me.
