Video error after bonus pack download

All my stars are huge!

Running the game perfectly well until I downloaded the bonus pack from Stardock. Now, the stars are rendering several times their proper size, completely filling all surrounding parsecs. I can barely see the white of the various planet/anomaly/resource icons, and the blue of the various ships. Everything else in the game seems to be rendering okay.

Is there a way to uninstall the bonus pack? Do I need to start the install over again from scratch and just not do the bonus pack stuff? Better still, what the heck happened when I installed the bonus materials?

The Bonus Pack is the 1.0X patch from right after release--installing it over a newer patch will break your game in various ways. It's not really needed anyway since all later patches include the bonus content as well (it's just left there because it's the only non-activated patch). So all you need to get everything is the latest patch (1.31) and the "Enable Collectors Edition Content" file.

To fix your game, just uninstall and reinstall, and patch up to 1.31 (if you installed from discs--SDC will install you straight to 1.31 from scratch).

Kryo,

It could be a nice idea to explicitely put on the web site that the bonus pack is the 1.0X version and require no activation. It isn't the first time that you must make this reply

I just got the game last night (retail disks) deluxe edition (or whatever its called)... everything seems to work fine, but the video is Choppy! My PC is definately up to spec and beyond, and the rest of the game seems to function fine... but the video is choppy...

Ok, Im done ranting, any thoughts?

Why don't you update your game to the latest patch?

This is most generally caused by having anti-aliasing on with certain video cards, which cannot cope with trying to AA the movies. It should improve if you turn anti-aliasing down or off. If you still have problems, go to C:\Program Files\Stardock\Totalgaming\GalCiv2, open the file debug.err there in notepad, and copy/paste its contents into a reply here. We can use the information there to provide further advice.

As noted by Peace Phoenix, you should also patch up to version 1.31 if you have not already. It contains many fixes and improvements over teh 1.0 version at retail, and is available on the downloads page of the site here.

Also, in the future please create a new thread when posting a help request. It will be easier for you to get relevant help that way (especially when the thread you posted to is about a completely different problem).

I can't change it myself, though I've asked the web team to do so a few times, they are quite busy with other work.

Thank you for the advice. I will check the AA first and then I will post the log...
