Click + Drag scroll very choppy

I've been playing Galciv II since it was released. I stopped playing for about 2 months and downloaded the latest update 1.31 now (per SDCentral).

I never experienced the problem I have at the moment:

If I use the leftclick in map scroll it gets very choppy. I measured the framrate per FRAPS and got 100+ fps using the edge scroll as well as the click + hold minimap scroll. As soon as I click and drag directly in the map it drops down to 7-12 fps.

My configuration:

Athlon 64 3700+ no OC
Nvidia 6600GT 128MB no OC
2048 MB Ram + 1536 MB Paging File

The things I've done so far which brought no noticable improvement:

1) Installed the latest WHQL Nvidia drivers (91.36, had 84.43 before)
2) Decreased resolution to 1024x768, turned off antialiasing
3) Started games in various Galaxy sizes

I haven't the slightest clue what causes this problem, especially as the click + drag in minimap method works smoothly.
I did a few searches, but nothing relevant came up.

Post the contents of your debug.err (found in C:\Program Files\Stardock\Totalgaming\GalCiv2), that will give some more in-depth information about your system.

Here's my debug.err

Playing around I just noticed another interesting thing. If I hide the context area (minimap + the info screen), the click + drag scroll in the main map works fine

Do have a dual core processor. If so that could be the problem if you get "spining." If that is the case you need a driver update and to go into task manager while your playing and tell GC to just use 1 core.

I am having the exact same problem but no one has been able to offer me any help. I had no problems at all under windows xp sp2. Then I upgraded to vista 64 bit and this happened. I noticed the same thing with the minimap and controlls minimized...the problem goes away. But that is really annoying. My system is as follows

AMD Athlon 4400+ Duel Core
1 GB RAM
nVidia 7800 GT (101.41 beta drivers for vista 64 bit)
Sound Blaster Audigy 2ZS gamer
nvidia nforce 4 MB

I really wish someone could figure this out. It does not appear to be a graphics problem (i.e. from to much going on) but rather a driver of configuration/settings problem. Help!

This is not the same issue as reported in this old thread, but it is a known one which appears to be caused by an issue in nVidia's Vista drivers. The problem has been forwarded to nVidia so they can see if they can do anything about it.
