Installing ESD version followed by Bonus Pack causes error in shipbuilder

I purchased the ESD only version of the game and updated it today with the most recent version (1.31.049). The installation went fine, game plays great and there aren't any problems.

I then installed the Bonus Pack which I downloaded from here (galciv2.com) as I didn't see it anywhere in SDC. And I ran the activation program as instructed. Now, in the shipbuilder I have all of the new parts from the bonus pack but I have lost the ability to rotate or reset the parts in the editing window, the rotation dials are there but they no longer have the arrows on them and the "move" button is there but has no text on it. I also have the +/-90 degree hardpoint modifiers in the parts list again and I hadn't seen them since the demo. It still functions, it's just a pain since what I'm assuming is a later feature is now sorely missed.

I imagine installing an older version foll0wed by the bonus pack before applying the patches would work but I only have access to the latest version in SDC so I can't test that theory. Then again, this may be a "feature" of the bonus pack, but since it's worse than having the dials, keyboard shortcuts and move button in the ship designer I can't imagine that it is intended.

Any work-arounds would be greatly appreciated, I'll probably mess with it later tonight and try a few things myself. I've re-installed without the bonus pack for the meantime so somethign that doesn't involve another few hundred megabytes worth of downloads would be best

Edit: Also, I did search but didn't find any help, just a lot of discussion on what was included so please forgive me if this is a known issue.

The "Bonus Pack" is in actuality patch 1.0X, the first one from immediately following release. Installing that over a non-1.0 game will break it in various ways and you'll need to reinstall (which you appear to have already done). Everything that was "extra" in the bonus pack is already included in all later versions anyway, so it really only remains there because it's the only patch that doesn't require activation, IIRC.

All you need to get everything is the latest patch (1.31, if you installed from SDC you already have that), and the "Enable Collectors Edition Content" download, which will activate the CE ship parts.
