Random Pirate Encounter

Hello,
I have a question about the random encounter you sometimes get when colonizing a planet. The random encounter I am interested in is as follows: You are contacted by a pirate leader about starship bonuses and you have the usuall choice between good, neutral, and evil.

The questions I have are:
1. What exactly is the bonus you get.
2. Is it limited to just the starships built on that planet.

Thanks for your time.

I agree. This is one of the lessor benefits one can get for the evil choice. You generally don't have the luxury of only producing ships from a single planet and that's assuming you even happen to remember later in the game which planet it was that has this benefit.

1. I think it applies to attack/defense as well

2. Just ships built on that planet

If it's on a planet with a big industrial base it can be well worthwhile - I've seen bonuses as high as 60%, which is beefy.

Try renaming the planet in reference to whatever it applies to, like, Academia or something stupid for a planet that mainly conducts research, etc.

It applies only to weapons and defense.

Having a planet that makes ships that are 50% stronger than all your other ships can be *very!* nice.

But you have to keep track of which ones they are, can you rename ships?

can you rename ships?

Yes, but not individually as far as I know. And my example was all encompassing. If you get a pirate "bonus" for your ships built on a particular planet, just rename the planet something that will remind you of that bonus, nuff said?

Evil I understand about renaming the planet and that is a good idea but there is a differance in knowing which planet can produce the better ships and which ships are the better ships. If you have dozens or even hundards of ships traveling the galaxy keeping track of which ships are better is important.

I guess you could create a ship line that you only produce on that one planet, like 'Pir Small' or 'Pir Med' etc. but that is kind of a pain, it is too bad you can't name each ship.

Its a bonus to your ships attack/defense

2. Is it limited to just the starships built on that planet.

Yes it is.

I normaly wait until I get that event, then I simply turn that world into the one I crank ships out from- Or in the end, my big Dreadnaughts- Highest Bonus I've seen is a 48% bonus. Also I add a * to the front of the planet name or names- so Kpax would become *Kpax. Also, I if I have other planets producing the same ship kind of ship, when my Bonus ships get kicked out, I rename them and give them real names, like DD Rueban James or the like.

You can. Select the ship on the map, and click the little icon to the right of the ships name in the infopanel. The icon looks like a page with one corner turned down.

You can use the same method to rename any object on the map--Ships, Planets, Stars, Fleets, even ones you don't own.

Putting them in separate fleets would be ideal, but if you don't like that kind of micromanagement then just stick them in with the rest of your fleets, it shouldn't make a huge difference. Turn that planet into you manufacturing capitol with a pile of factories and you will see the benifit. I always take a sizable pirate bonus on any reasonable sized world.

Well, you can't actually rename stars.
