Screen keeps migrating West

Hello, all.
I'm posting this because it seems many folks here have "challenging" hardware-software configurations.
I'm running on a P4 1.8 with 1 gig of memory and an NVidia Quadro card (64 meg video memory)
Since I got the gui bug, which was about the same time I upgraded this computer and downloaded/installed all of the Stardock DesktopX programs (pay version),
(deep breath)
My visible screen keeps moving to the right. I mean, after a few window opens/closes I end up with a big blank section to the left and a corresponding amount of the right side of the window is not visible. Can't see it.
I've tried several things but have not yet gone through the "uninstall everything, go to the beginning and reinstall one thing at a time" headache. I'm hoping someone here has experienced/heard of this issue and figured out the quick and easy fix (!) --I also hope for world peace. . .
