Choose Language

Want to use other language

I guess somebody else would have come up with this issue already. Alas: I can't find it. So I'm asking / pointing this out. When installing GC2 Coll.Ed. the game installs itself in some language it determines by what ever means. For me this is German. Excuse my french, but the game's "german" is as 'good' as is my spanish. What I am missing a an option during install to choose another language, prefered the english version. I know that this is technically possible. The last installation was english, but due to "issues" I had to reinstall. Afterwards the game insists on using an outstandingly crappy german, that is for one by far incomplete, for another in more than a few occasions flatt out wrong (ie. the game insists on - in german - "XY was defended by foobar" where it must read "XY was defeated by foobar" and so on). So please: include an option within the installer to pick the language you want to use by the user. Its for the best of the game. Cheers!

Well, the language is determined by the value of a specific registry key. All you have to do is to change it to get the English language. Or if you have a very high speed Internet connexion, you can download the whole game using Stardock Central. And SDC gives only the english version

Nice to know that there probably is some way to solve this, but honestly: Would you mess around with your systems registry on the basis of your own advice reading very much like "find some miracle key somewhere and change it in some way"? I doubt that. Regarding the download: I was trying it the usual way, which probably is the way most people will install their game - by inserting the disc. I did not find an "all english version" while looking for updates. Cheers!

Well, the registry key is :

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\stardock\Drengin.net\GalCiv2\Language

And I have switched it with no trouble between the value English and French. It has allowed me to get the official french 1.2 version when I have used the 1.2 retail update patch after having changed the language registry key on an english version.

And the 1.2 retail update patch path all languages version as told on the website:

This update includes localizations for France, Germany, and Poland.

But due to the way sentences are placed it might not be obvious that it will update all languages
