How to create taskbar with only start and system tray?

Newbie Alert!

I just bought object desktop yesterday so I am a total noob. I did search this forum but didn't find this answer. I would like to create a taskbar that only contains the start button, then a big space, and the system tray. Or, alternatively, make the taskbar transparent and the system tray and start button opaque (not transparent). However, I would like to keep the system tray's ability to auto hide icons. Is there a way to do this? Pointing me to a page in the manual, or reffering me to another program or everything like that is totally great and fine and will be appreciated.

BTW, is it ok to post here or should I make these posts at wincustomize's forums? I am posting here because I keep getting an error when I try to post there via stardock central. Is it because I didn't buy the sub to wincustomize and so can't post there?

most of the desktop app forum posts from Stardock show up at WC - you don't have to subscribe to WC to post, but you do need to register (it's free) - I also think you get a year at WC with the ODNT purchase (at least you used to) - just don't use your stardock store account.

I haven't been using OB and I'm not at home to look, so I can't help.

Thanks! I spent today sifting through wincustomize. I spent an hour futzing with it and creating different accounts trying to get the subscribed features. Nothing works. I think maybe they are no longer offering a sub with purchase of Object desktop 2007? Can anyone confirm? If so thats a shame. I would not pay the $20 cold without seeing how it works in my stardock central. In the demo I don't see any reason to subscribe so I can only imagine what $20 would give me and I am imagining nothing.

However, I found an amazing winblinds skin which gives me what I was looking for. Its called ecliz deluxe. Frankly it blew my socks off. I was wondering if I made a mistake buying this software, that skin made me feel alot better. Next I will mess with desktop X before I return to seeing what objectbar can do.

It's been 3 yrs since I remember doing this:

go the 'My account' tab
then click 'cross reference with your stardock account' - I think that will work -

I seem to recall reading somewhere here:

if you just buy on prog (say WB) then you get unlimited downloads for WB here, for a yr - other items are subject to the download cap.

so it seems logical, if you bought ODNT you would have unlimited downloads to all the progs included.

it may not be the equivalent of subscriber - but it will at least uncap your downloads.

in your ODNT confirmation, did you get a link to the WinCustomize browser also?
if so, once you cross reference your account - click subscription info in the left column at WC.

Nevermind

you already did the cross reference - you show as a current customer.

now just click sdubscription info on the left and see what your options are.

Thanks Bichur! I see, its the unlimited downloads that comes with Object desktop. I was thinking it was integration into stardock central. No problem, that part is working fine . I gave up on desktopX as useless. The themes are nice and all but they really don't function without alot of work. Since I already use sidebar, a wallpaper rotator and konfabulator (which really are all better apps for widgets) desktopX got uninstalled .

So, I started playing with objectbar again. Two hours in and, well, its a bit complex. All I want to do is take the taskbar from Eclize deluxe and take out the taskbar part. So I keep the start button and the system tray. I followed the manual and was able to import the theme from winblinds, however the transparent elements showed up as white (ugly) on the start menu and the rest. I don't really care about the bar itself, since I am going to remove it. But the start button and system tray are surrounded by a transparent element. Of course, the start menu itself is totally ugly now too and I don't even know where to start on that part. The transparancy slider works only for the whole thing. There doesn't seem to be a way to use it on certain parts. Also I can't get my system tray icons to show up. My idea, if I can get it done, is to remove the center part and then buy objectdock and use that for the currently running apps. However, I am rapidly thinking this is impossible. I think I will be better off in skinstudio and mod the windblinds skin to remove the bar which I will post about there. Anyway, its late where I am and I am heading for bed after I make that post. Thanks for all your help and replies Bichur!

by no means useless... just somewhat complicated for most of us.

some (if not all that hide the taskbar) have a 'start', 'taskbar', and 'system tray'.

what you can do is open them and look at them

when you go to create an new object, you can find 'system tray' and 'taskbar' in the drop down options. I can't remember if 'start' is there (not at home).

you can create one of each (each one a new object) - create your background bar and put them in it and group them together - i just haven't figured out the parent/child thing yet.

Haven't been playing much with either DTX or OB this year, so I'm useless.

Thanks Bichur. I made the post over in skinstudio and they reffered me back to objectbar . However, they said that objectbar doesn't support transparency, so I basically wasted my time last night . Maybe there is some other work around I will keep looking.

Sorry, I ment desktopX was useless for me. Konfabulator and sidebar have far more functionality than desktopX for the little widgets. Actually avedesk does too but I no longer use that after I found konfabulator. DesktopX's stregnth seems to be in its little moving launch buttons and the themes. My goal is to clean my desktop of icons and the themes I don't really like truthfully. For that total shell change I've already tried talisman and litestep. Actually, I just restored this pc from an image after using talisman for a couple weeks and decided that I like the standard shell but I want to make it beautiful. Hence why I purchased Object Desktop .

but you could still create your 'start' and 'systray' with DTX

I must be getting better at object desktop because I was thinking along the same lines. But using a transparent objectdock for the system tray. However, it didn't work as I wanted because the autohide option isn't avalible. Can desktopX create a systemtray that can autohide icons? The problem is I have alot of systemtray icons (like around 50). I originally put them all in desktop sidebar but it was unattractive and not functional like I wanted. Thanks again Bichur!

Yes

Ok, that would be perfect. I tried the two objects that use the system tray at wincustomize but neither do the autohiding. Any tips on how I can customize this object https://www.wincustomize.com/viewskin.aspx?sid=1&skinid=2314&libid=3&comments=1&c=1 to auto hide icons like the win taskbar? Thanks guys!

From the developers guide. Open the object in DX Builder and add the function you want to the script.

Object.AppBar

An AppBar is an object that is designed to be attached to the edge of the screen like the Taskbar. Also like the taskbar it can be set to autohide, but beyond this you can undock it as well so it can be moved on the screen. When an appbar is set to Autohide, then moving the mouse over the edge of the screen will cause the AppBar to smoothly appear.
Note that Object.AppBar can only be written, not read, so if you need to check the mode at any time you need to set a variable when you set the mode, and then query the value of this variable. Example 1 shows how you may set a variable in this manner.
The values for Object.AppBar are as follows:
0 = Disabled
1 = Docked
2 - Autohide
Example:

Sub Object_OnScriptEnter
Object.AppbarMode = 1
appmode = 1
End Sub

Thanks Zubaz, I will give it a try. After this I have to take a break. I've been spending all my free moments working on my desktop for a month. Funny how this all started by innocuously downloading the Royal theme from Microsoft .

Ok I took a trial and error course in Desktop X. Ouch. I got it working but its not the autohide I was looking for. Not to hide the whole thing from the desktop but to autohide specific icons based on my settings in taskbar properties. Seems Objectbar is the only way to really do this (it seems to support the autohide like the taskbar) but I have to take a break . Anyway I read that the new objectbar will be out in a couple weeks. So maybe it will support transparancy and I will pick this up again when it comes out. Thanks for all the help! Now to finish seting up objectdock and stay away from my desktop for a bit .
