Minor Civ totally inactive....

Late in the game a minor civ named the Vegans appear. They were on my border with the Yor and I thought it would be good to give them a hand in their fight with the Yor, especially since I didnt want to risk direct conflict with them.

I made them a nice Military Starbase and gave them a bunch of my ships, but they didnt move them for 20+ turns, even though the Yor kept sending single troop ships which everytime got through and finaly conquered the poor Vegans.

Is it a bug, or is it a feature?

i think its a bug, however why waste to much time on those minor races.

though it can be annoying yes, i had a minor race who had its starport full with freighters, he never used them and he couldn't make other ships cause of this.

in the case above i would have taken the planet myself better mine than someone else inside my empire or next door

Yes, there seems to be an issue with minors never moving gifted ships.

Probably all that drool shorted out the controls or something.

Minors = Cannon fodder

Unfortunately with the way the minors are coded they are little more than decoration in the game and offer no real bonus other than a 'cash cow' for the AI's. Its a pity as i used to love getting my butt handed to me by the Scottlingas Guess we will not get that fun in GCII...

I don't like how inconsequential the minor races are. Even if they are minor, they should have a higher level of AI than they do now - especially if all of the major races aren't present in the game. The Snathi should actually be...somewhat...menacing, as their description says. The Dark Yor should be a less powerful but more aggressive Yor, instead of just an uncolonizable (if you want to keep them around) planet that you can trade with and sell technology to if you run low on money. They're called the Dark Yor for a reason!

that's about the description of any minor races. they don't have any flavor or purpose other than that

Minors could be quite useful:

1. They get all the most recent technologies (if I am not mistaken) so you can trade with them rather with your enemies.

2. They can be a useful distraction for your enemies.

3. Each game you play, there is that strong race nearby that you dont dare attack. Having a minor civ starting a war with them, with you providing the minors with ships could be quite useful.

Therefore I would like this to get fixed... if possible, and if most of the people think this is important.

1- I never sell my most recent tech to minor, they could sell it to superpowers! I only sell my most outdated techs

2- Not for long.

3- Minor AI don't manage given ships very well. It would be more efficient for you to simply enter war with the opposing AI.

Once Im powerful enough so that the AIs dont attack me I will allie with the Minors so when they are attacked I'm justified in defending them this very usefull when your playing very good and looking for an excuse to attack another good race.

Minors are good for one thing only, easy conquer of a high PQ planet. Only one time have I encountered a minor that put up much of a fight. Later in the game, I usually take their planet as soon as they show up.

Minors can't expand, right? Unless someone gifts them planets? Because I was playing a game where a minor called the Alkilians or something beat the everloving crap out of me. They had FAR superior tech and a seemingly limitless supply of ships. Really seemed like I was playing a major race.

would be nice to make them more useful and active.
I want to have some of them as my friends and give them ships if they dont build enough (hope they do) to fight my enemies.

I played a few games now but never saw a minor race, but the "Disable minor race" is DISabled. Just saw a few in campaign. I have to try it again tomorrow. The Dreadlords wiped me out after a long time searching them and researching new techs. Next time I know where they are...time for revenge!

In version 1.0 they could gain some real power. I remember a couple wars with the I-League and Vegans where they were taking my planets left and right. They seemed to have the resources and power of pirates.

Since the updates though, minors have done pretty much nothing.

I long for the old way.

In my games (GC1)it was the Carinoids that always ended up with a whole star cluster and planets full of battleships & dreadnoughts....
