Ship Design Catalog

I know that the tech tree descriptions give a list of ships that each research item makes progress towards but it would be nice to have a ship catalog of all the player designs. I have specific attack and defense designs for different stages of the game and I somtimes have difficulty identifying which technology is still not researched to access a specific ship design from a previous game. The catalog might list the information shown during ship design but it would also show what technologies are missing to access that ship design.

Maybe I'm restating what you said. But, when I design a ship that works real well and I come back to use it in a later game. I forget all the techs I researched to get that ship. It would be nice to see all those ships, maybe in the ship designer, so I could see what techs I still have to research.

Is there any place to find out that info currently in the game?

It should say so on the Tech Tree for the techs required for that design. It will also tell you what other techs are required.

I thought it already told once you upgrade the tech needed to unlock the ship, for example lets say you built a Frigate with phasors and Hyperwarp on a previous game, once you reaserch Medium Scale Building it'll tell you what ships are going to be availble, and what other tech you need to research, in this case, when phasors and hyperwarp have been discovered. Hope that helps.

Monclova34 is partially correct but in the example given you would have to research Medium Scale Building before you could find out what is missing for your ship design. If I am trying to begin research on turn one of the game that will expidite my progress towards a specific design that is listed under a technology that is three layers deep in the tech tree, I do not have a list on turn one which tells me what to research first. If you are researching plasma weapons for example but you need an energy technology that does not show up for three more technologies in the energy branch of the technology tree, finishing the research of plasma weapons will not tell you anything about the ship design you are trying to reach. You would have to manually click on every technology in the technology tree to find one that applies to the ship design you want and then write down all the required technologies so that you do not have to keep going back to future items in the tree to determine what to research next.

It can happen all ways, If the ships had hyperwarp, and you click on hyperwarp, itll tell you the name of the ship with what technologies you need to research, same if it had phasorz, same if it had minituarization, same for all techs. But yeah, it wont show that until you research a technology related to that research , so once you reaserch the previous generation or close to that generation of techs, it will show it. On engines it almost always shows them cuz all races start with hyperdrive, some with ion drive so, yeah it works. If you researched lasers, and click lasers 5, it will show what ships are under that tech even if it hasnt been researched yet.
