WB classic

version question

Hello,

From the Stardock Central soft, it says "WB Classic 4.5" (and in the forums it's often written 4.6) but when WB is running in the system tray, it says v4.3...
I'm on Win2k, any clarification will be appreciated.

I think the one on the systray is using the icon name - saw that on a post a long while back

The full icon name display in the system tray is:
WindowBlinds 4 (4.3 (build 119-NXP) - Shareware)

So I am running the WB Classic 4.5 here?...

Anyway, here can I find the "Release notes" or the "Change log" of WB? To see what changed between 4.3 & 4.5 (or 4.6, if it has been released).

The transparency feature only came up from the v5 ?

If you're running the paid version - did you install vial Stardock Central?

If so, open SDC and highlight your WB then down at the bottom right is a link to history

Hi again Bichur,

I'm not running the paid version, but I installed the demo from StarDock Central.
The link used to download the demo was: http://storage.stardock.com/files/windowblinds4_public.exe

From the SDC, the installed version of the Demo is not shown: "-----" in the column.

I'm asking all this about the versions because I got a weird thing recently: after a startup, when getting to the desktop, WB loaded normally (with other softs), but when I opened some other softs: nothing happened... When I tried to restart, the computer unloaded everything but didn't restart itself (I needed to turn the switch OFF). After the restart, everything was back to normal (???). It happened only 1 time from now.
So if this bug is in the v4.3, but not in the (paid) v4.5, I will be glad to buy the paid version!

What about the v4.6 that some people wrote in the forums?...

I'm not sure which version they are calling 'Classic' - I have been under the impression it was 4.6 - but it may be 4.5

You might shoot an email to support to ask them

I saw the 'try' link earlier, thought it take me to a download page - until the 'do you want to run/save' dialog popped up. Can't tell by the addy what version it is.

The glitch you had may be just that - a one time glitch.
On the other hand, not all softwares play nice with WB - they usually have their own way to skin. Those you have to add to the 'per application' list to be excluded from skinning.

WB 4.6 on non XP will always report itself as 4.3.

Are you sure about that?....
I have a support ticket opened, I will post an update here.

Anyway, even from Stardock Central "lastest WindowBlinds version available" shows "4.50".

Neil knows.

ok .... and yes it's seems logical to have a v4.6 being reported as a v4.3 ..    Then I guess a v4.7 is needed .

It displays 4.3 because that is the latest non XP version of WB4.

From the SDC, the latest available is "4.50", and from the ticket support I opened it seems that v4.60 has been released... there's some people in the forums too talking about the v4.60 (but I don't know if it's a non-XP one).

Anyway, the good news is that no glitch happened since then.

Trust me when I say that 4.3 is the latest non XP version of WB4.  Later builds (4.4, 4.5 and 4.6) only updated the XP version which is why the version when installed on 2000 shows as 4.3.

yep

not counting those older skins that used 'magic pink' in the skins for tranparent parts.
