Terrans screwed on technology....

In my games terrans start with only planetary improvements and Xeno communications, Doesnt it make sence since humans invented hyperdrive they should at least get the technology? This is a big problem since a usually play with very slow research rates and it can take 2-3 turns to research hyperdrive and start colonising.
Is there any reason why humans start with such a big handicap?

It has been about 6 months since I have been played a sandbox game as the Terrans but as I recall you start with HyperDrive but not the smaller HyperDrive Plus. Being the youngest of the major races it makes sense that they be behind in technology. It does not make sense that humans invented fusion power before the other races when you consider the Drengin discovered fission power before the Terrans discovered fire!

No one is forcing you to play as human. I have only played as Terran, Arceans, and Thalan Empire but I have read that the Drath Legion has the best race bonuses.

I think if you read his post again he says that you do start with the bigger version of hyperdrive, then you can upgrade to the smaller version. I dont really know since i always play custom races anyways.

I agree, You get the basic tech at start the larger clunky hyperdrives. Want to zoom around the galaxy going to have to research the engines a bit.

As Terrans you should start with:

Xeno Communications
Hyper Drive
Xeno Engineering

If you have a mod enabled, that might have changed it, or you might have been messing with your xml files and changed it yourself and forgot you did it, I've done that before. The tech's you start with are located under GalCiv2/Data/English/Raceconfig.xml.

Not sure how you might have messed that up without going into your xml files.
Alternatively, if you patch the game it should return that file to it's proper state.

I'm wondering, what the heck were the other civs doing the last million years (or however long they've been using space travel)?! In a few years the humans pretty much go from using shuttles and being able to go to the moon, to inventing a machine that would allow them to move halfway across the galaxy in a few months! The other civs have been traveling for a long time but have never advanced... lazy bums.

Stargates took immense amounts of power to operate, and humans were the first race to finally perfect fusion power. With that much power available on every ship, they were able to design a compact version of the stargate's base functionality and pack it on every ship. Other than that (and shields, though that part of the story is not included in the game version), humans are lacking in most other fields of research.
