Installing DesktopX disables WMP, System Restore and XP Help&Support

I have tracked down an issue that has stopped windows media player, system restore and XP Help&Support from working. This occurs as soon as Install DesktopX and load a few widgets. There must be something screwing up the registry. Uninstalling DesktopX does not help. I need to roll back to a previous registry back up and I am back to normal the those apps work again.

has anyone seen this before?

Not me. Been running Object Desktop items for 3 yrs on my HP.

The only time I had issues with system restore and Help&Support was when I had Norton.

Hard to say, I disable thoses services and about 20 others when i do a fresh install of Windows XP. Those are just extra bloat you don't need anyway

Probably an MS Script issue.

There have been intermittent reports of the MS script associations with JScript and VBScript with DesktopX and some systems.

You can reinstall the MS Script using this page if ever needed
