CTD upon entering game

OK, I want to kick some dreadlord butt. Or at least destroy a few evil races. Either way, I want to use some ingenious creativity in the ship designer and rule my people with an iron fist! but I can't .

OK so to the bug description: I start the demo game. I go to the menu and look at all the cool additions. I tweak a bit, set to 1 opponent on fool (I want a quick, ez game) and then prepare to kick butt. It cuts to desktop as soon as I click the last 'next' button. sometimes it shows what I think is a startup hint, but I only see it for a few seconds.

now, it said (when I played it the first time) I don't have the latest display drivers. So, my comp is a VPR Matrix, so I go to the site and dl(via external hard drive) and install the drivers. I had the same crash to desktop before and after I supposedly installed the drivers. I'm quite sure I installed the drivers right- it was quite straightforward. I think it asked me to reboot, and I did.

Now, I've only tried this with the demo. As soon as I can activate the full game, I'll try it then.

Please go to C:\Program Files\Stardock\Totalgaming\GalCiv2 (or wherever you installed the game at), open the debug.err file you find there in notepad, and copy/paste the contents into a post here. This will give us some technical information that can help troubleshoot your problem.

Please post a debug.err file, so it's possible to see if the drivers installed correctly.

I opened it with notepad and all it says is:

debug message: version 1.2 beta 2 last updated on: fri jun 2 19:51:16 2006

doesn't seem like an error message- Same thing it's said when I've opened it before. Could I be missing crucial data because of Notepad or is that even possible?

No. However, that cannot be a complete error file, since the computer specs should be listed.

Also, update to 1.2 final version.

'bout to do that, just posting to say the problem persists with the full game.

I SO long to kick Dreadlord butt!

ok, I downloaded what was apparently the update (1.2) and it installed the demo. the EXE I dl'ed was Galciv2_120_bonuspack_071806. is this the right file?

edit: um, I purchased the download a few days ago, that's how I got the game. Is it already v1.2?

It's already beta 1.3.

Uninstall everything, and re-install the core game, then install 1.2 from stardock central. DO NOT install the bonus pack, or beta 1.3.

The bonus pack is included in 1.2, so that's why you don't need to install it.

well, it just installed to ...Galactic Civilizations II/GalCiv2demo or something like that, so I just deleted that folder.

The game now runs: I downloaded the Nvidia display drivers a few threads north and it now runs. I posted there as well. Work is now underway on a game example of mine (after I learn to play of course!)
