Should be possible to build lower-tech items

Late in the game, it becomes prohibitively expensive to bootstrap new planets, because the only available manufacturing thing is the manufacturing district.

It would be nice if there were a way to build, say, plain old factories, even though they'll later need to be upgraded, to allow for a bootstrapping procedure to cut down on the expense of buying a manufacturing district for every planet.

It is a subject that has been talked about many times before in various other posts. However at this stage, although many of us agree with you on the idea of being able to build older items, there appears to be no hint of this happening from the devs...

There are pros and cons to the idea. Ultimately, by mid to late game your economy should be making loads of money so buying a manuf plant doesn't put a dent into your wallet.

It also adds some strategic considerations as to when the best time is to research the faculty upgrades.

It is a feature I would like to see added in the future, the ability to construct buildings of any current or lower tech level. Its annoying having to spend forever building an industrial centre or virtual reality centre.

What would work nicely is a global 'Show/hide buildings' screen which will let you choose exactly what you want to see in the list, and will also summarise their production costs and resulting benefits. It might also be an idea to incorporate a 'No automatic upgrade' checkbox as well, either as a global setting or for each building.

Really you should just zone a tile for a particular type of building, then it evolves slowly from the oldest to the latest type available.

Me, when I can not afford the turbine generater. Something in a tile is better than nothing...

The list of upgrades can get too long as it is, and think you should be able to buy the first factory or two late in the game. (if you can't, you're not building a good economy and god help you...)

Although the AI regularly outpaces itself, and for the AI, sticking with older buildings would probably help it.
