Alien Tech Report

I think it would be really helpful to have the the alien tech reports incorporated into the research screen. Their civilization symbols could be placed underneath the techs that they have.

Personally I usually just use the diplomacy screens to see what they have and I don't. The tech listing in the civilization reports is just not organized at all.
I haven't noticed the AI reacting to my opening the diplomacy screen with them and then doing nothing.

I agree, the alien tech report could use some organization, and I use the diplomacy window as well.

Just a thought..... Why even have espionage in the game to begin with? The main things I really want to view are within the diplomacy window. How many ships, Tech superiority, sheesh I can even tell how much money they have. I know all this information about them and haven't met but one freakin ship. Sorry, I know trading is important and all to some, but this is just to much information to know right off the end of Hank Aarons bat. Diplomacy and espionage.... I have this big gun and I will trade it for.... 13454 bc. "We do not have that kinda cash!" Ahh but my spies say you do! Now instead, I shoot you with said big gun for lying! Muhahah!

The point is this. You should only know what that race wants you to know unless you are using the espionage the way it was intended. The diplomacy screen kills most of this.. not all... just most.

One thing i would like to see implemented in a future update is the right click info on AI ships be hidden from a player until they have the relevant espionage level. This currently works with starbases so why not with the ships too. This would also increase the 'fun' aspect of the game as you would not get a heads-up on the type and level of their firepower.

In respect to this i think a logical addition to the above would be to limit the trade in arms (or even being able to see them) until you are at 'ally' with an AI. This can be done to a degree now with the 'no tech trading' option.

The use of the above would make it more necessary to have multi-weaponed starships and stop the human player just excelling at a certain tech.

I agree fully with you Mr. Jack Jack.... The fun factor is what it is all about. I have read many posts within this forum talking about how some players do not even bother with sensor development.

What if your espionage level let you know what they had and your sensors allowed you to see what certain ships are equipped with? The better your sensors and espionage, the more accurate in calculating exactly what your opponent is wielding. Making sensors all that more valuable.

Seems logical enough.

The Diplomacy window doesn't show ships in fleets.
It doesn't show you techs that you have.
It doesn't show you techs in No Tech Trading.
It doesn't show you stat bonuses.
It doesn't show you planet details.
It doesn't show you ship destinations.

I use all those things. I put high priority on Espionage.

As for sensors: Sensors IV = Eyes of the Universe. I really like Eyes of the Universe--I only need a couple patrols, and they can just chase down any little colored blips that are getting close to my influence bubble. (The free maxed-out sensor bubble doesn't hurt either.)

Please do not get me wrong, I never said Espionage was not useful. On the contrary.

I was just trying to point out that the diplomacy screen reveals more about a civilization than it really needs to. I shouldn't have to cripple the game "No tech trading" in order to make the diplomacy screen more realistic, because trading techs inevitably is also a realistic possibility between civilizations.

Being prior military and having some skills revolving around actual warfare and tactics, I have found that paying attention to detail can be the vital key needed for a victory. I want to give my enemy as little information about my society as possible while finding out as much about him as I can. One of the first rules of Warfare I believe. Know your enemy.

Honestly I just started playing last month and wanted to chime in on my experiences thus far. After I finish my first few games I plan on getting in on the Metaverse. Trying to get a more complete feel for the game and it's AI.

Remember.... its not the fall that kills you... it's that sudden stop at the end.
