What gives

SO I installed the latest build and all was well for a few days. Then for no apparent reason I started to see the folders with default icons, not the ones I selected in Iconpackager. As time has gone by, less and less of my icons have been displayed, harddrives, DVD roms and writers, even removable drives, now show most of the time the defaults. Now the really weird bit is the desktop icons have remained all the time and occasionally when opening my computer, the icons I chose with iconpackager show, but when browsing to another window, say d drive, the icons for folders no longer show the iconpackager ones but the default ones again. Having got really fedup with this, I decided to remove 3 and install 2.5 which I had on a spare drive. Loaded the iconpackage that worked occasionally with 3 and all icons are displayed correctly, all the time. What is going on? please.

Hello,

I may be wrong, but to me, this seems more like a Windows problem than one of Iconpackager.

Have you ever tried the Tweak Powertoy utility from Microsoft? It's free and very useful for all sorts of fine-tuning on the computer.

In addition, it has a special feature for rebuilding icons on the left column under the "Repair" entry.

I suggest that you try re-installing the Iconpackager version you had before, then if things go haywire again, go to the Tweak utility and rebuild your icons!

Thanks for the info but I have tried all that and it is not working correctly with 3. I will keep 2.5 on until they bring out a newer version, and then try again. As for it being a windows problem, possible I suppose but unlikely as all else works ok and if it was a problem with windows I would assume the error would be transferred to 2.5 as well. As 2.5 works ok, a windows problem is unlikely.
Again I say thanks.

This should not be an issue with IconPackager as the program is not always in memory. It is only loaded when you change or apply icons.

You should try rebuilding your icon cache to see if that helps, or even try increasing your icon cache size.
