VERY annoying problem

PLEASE HELP !

At the top of my screen ive got a 1 inch gap that the wallpaper will not fill. Its not the positioning as the icons go all the way to the top of the screen and ive tried the wallpaper display settings on "centre" and "stretch", still doesnt cure the problem.
Ive tried changing the resolution but that doesnt help, ive tried uninstalling and reinstalling my graphics card and windows blinds etc etc..
Ive tried resizing a photo to the exact resolution of my monitor and the gap at the top is still there.

If i create a new user account on my PC and log into it, the gap is not there so i know its a specific setting thats incorrect on my account, and not a problem with hardware.

Does anyone have any ideas or know if its window blinds related?

Thanks,

Tom

Have you tried to unload WB > use Display Propterties\Themes tab to select and apply the default "Windows XP" theme?

If not, I would give that a go and see if it allows the "Bliss" wallpaper to cover the desktop.

Other thoughts:

Are you using any programs that save or protect space on the desktop?

If so, I would suggest resetting those programs to release saved/protected space.

DesktopX?
Object Dock?
ObjectBar?
Sysmetrix?

Do you use nay of those?

I have disabled any space saving features etc in control panel performance and maintanence.

If i apply a skin with the supplied wallpaper from WB, the wallpaper covers the whole screen ive just realised.

But, if i apply a wallpaper manually in control panel or right click set as background, i always get the gap at the top ??

Thanks for your quick reply, its much appreciated.

I was just reading a thread last night that would probably help you. I'll see if I can find it.

That was easy enough. It was still in the Newest Articles list.

Hi, thanks for your reply again. Ive read through the thread and downloaded and run the program to restore the desktop, but unfortuanetely i still have that strange gap in the wallpaper at the top!

This is really bugging me now. Ive posted this on various forums hoping that someone has had the same problem and found the cure. I will let you know if i manage to get it sorted.

Thanks again for your help

I doubt the follow is the problem, but you never know. Is the wallpaper an odd size from your desktop? Like, if your desktop is 1024x768, is the wallpaper you are trying to apply longer width wise (ex: 1400x900)? Cause sometimes applying a wallpaper with odd dementions can "resize" it on your desktop to make it look correct.

Gah, its hard to explain >.
Also, it could be a graphics card thing >_>. I know with my nvidia chip, I can manipulate the desktop orientation and create spaces, and warps and such. Perhaps you were playing around with some settings (usually accessed thru the right click menu) and accidentally modified something.

Good luck .

monkeynut,

Can you unload WB and use Display Properties\Themes tab\Theme list to select and apply the default "Windows XP" theme?

Sorry - I did not see you answer that one.

Do you now have, or have you had other Stardock programs as listed by 'dragonmage' in comment #9?

If so, you might try clearing the cache for those programs as outlined in this mini tutorial http://corkyo.wincustomize.com/Articles.aspx?AID=82461

Note - there is no folder named "cache", you will just need to delete the folder bearing the program's name (after unloading the program) found in "C:\Documents and Settings\USERNAME\Local Settings\Application Data\Stardock" folder (as outlined in the mini tutorial).

Clearing the cache removes any user preferences and forces the program to load with the defaults.

Note #2 - if all of the above fail, I would suggest applying the "Windows Classic" theme via WB configuration panel, and then going into the "Basic Settings" and deselecting the "Apply any wallpaper supplied" option > click "Apply Changes" > reapply the skin in question > reboot and see if you can successfully apply a wall via Display Properties\Desktop tab\Background list.
