just a thought

does anyone else think it would be a good idea, not to mention easier to be able to upgrade individual systems on a ship, rather than having to upgrade then entire ship, resulting in several ships bearing the same name, just with different "mark" notations?

for instance you could just select an option to upgrade engines, select the new item, and easy as that, your ships are now upgraded with the new propulsion, with the appropriate costs of course. or just telling the ship yard to upgrade the engines would automatically add the new engines to all ships being built from that point on

i dunno, just a thought

Yes it sounds logic indeed, but to code this is a whole different story I think. SD has gone with its way and I don“t think we are going to see major changes in this area.

I guess different sizes of ships and components could make this very difficult to code. I wouldn't mind some way of using production from shipyards to upgrade ships docked there, so you don't have to pay for the upgrades, but that's probably too much micromanagement.

It would be one thing if ships were built on a one-off unique design basis (Like Ascendancy for those who remember that game). But in GC2, ships are built based on designs. So it only really makes sense that you have to make a new or upgraded design, then change your ship to that design. It's just more consistent that way.
