The answer to the question depends entirely on what types of games you want to play.

For puzzle type games, Lumines is a great game.

Lemmings is an old classic, came out recently, and is supposed to be (I've not played it on the PSP) upgraded and very good on the PSP. (It too is a puzzle / platform type game).

Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories is good if you are interested in that sort of game.

MLB 06: The Show is nice if you like Baseball.

The NFL Street game is nice too (again sports game)

Continuing just a bit, a few other titles to consider: SOCOM: U.S. Navy Seals Fireteam Bravo is pretty cool also. (It can be played multiplayer, wirelessly, against others over the net -- I believe MLB 06 supports that feature as well).

If you like Hockey the Wayne Gretzky Hockey game (gambling wife not included) is pretty good.

Ridge Racer is nice for racing/sliding games.

One more quick tip - Circuit city is having a big sale for 4th of July where they're clearing out some PSP titles. You may want to stop in and filch through the big box of discounted video game titles. Check here for some of the titles. Actually the PSP list is short, so here it goes:
Darkstalkers
Exit
FIFA Soccer
Gretzky NHL
NBA Street Showdown
Need For Speed Underground Rivals
Spiderman 2
Tiger Woods PGA
Tony Hawk Underground 2 Remix
World Soccer Tour

The titles in that list are supposed to be discounted down to $8.97 (they may or may not be in the box with other discount titles, so you may want to check the shelfs and see if they were left there instead of being in the big box).

WipeOut was great on the old playstation... and it's pretty darn good on the PSP too!

it's anti-gravity sled racing, with airbrakes for the tight corners. basicly you learn the courses by braile for a while, then once you can stay off the walls and not come in last, you can unlock new couses and better sleds.

even before you are any good at it, though, you still get to choose your sled model... things like, do you want good acceleration and cornering? or high top speed and strong shields? or perhaps all-around averageness? or...

lots of different powerups for weapons and defenses (often with a choice between hitting the powerup or one of the speed-increasing booster arrows) make winning about more than just learning the courses well enough to run them quickly.
