Metaverse scoring

Scores dropped

Hi,

I'm wondering what is behind metaverse score calculations. Today I post my 16th game, worth of 90 000 point. This post dropped my score from 320 000 to 250 000 and 3th place to 9th.

There seem been at least two drop point, when you post you 6th game you scores are divided by 2 and when you post 16th your score are divided by 3.

What's the idea behind that kind of calculation. Are we punished when like to play and post our results to metaverse.

Or should I create a new identíty and post only 5 games each 100 000 point and vola I'm 3th again.

Heh, imagine how I feel, I was at 2nd place, posted a game, and dropped down to 7th or 8th, am now at 6th...

After game 17, my score was about 30% of my total points, then after game 18, my score didn't change, but my score was about 40% of my total points, so I have no clue...

The guy in first place hasn't posted any games since v1.1, in which their was a memory leak or something it says, but is still in first place, so some light into the scoring methods would be much appreciated!

Ya. Something needs to happen. Otherwise people will do what you said, and play 10 games and quit. Been bothered by this for a while because you could see many of the top10 were playing 1.11 beta and racking up points.

I am glad to support everyone on this post. I have been trying for months to draw the devs attention to the problems with the Metaverse and I Haven't received even one acknowledgement that they have read my posts. Lets keep this thread active and maybe they will notice that there really is a problem. Also playing on suicidal level is not rewarded enough. I can play a game in half the time on crippling and receive almost the same score, sometimes even higher. Bye for now TBAY.

I used to think folks complaining about this where a bunch on wine-ers too... There needs to be something done to keep people from quiting a character after 10 games. Perhaps that's what we should all do ? Maybe that's what they want ?

I have a lot of respect for the StarDock crew as they have actually made me feel like they care about their customers. Having said that I've started to notice that they are not answering as many questions that have been asked of them here lately. When I first came to the forums I had to look long and hard to find negative posts concerning the game, which is the reason I went out and bought it but now every other post seems to contain something negative.

The Metaverse is a great way to bring folks together as well as create some type of replay interest for the game. In theory that sounds great but when people start to realise that the more games they play the more their score drops they begin to give up. I do not expect the devs to release their scoring system but it seems that we have almost figured it out on our own and what we have found is that the system in place right now is extremly exploitable for the first few games, then not worth playing thereafter. What I would expect from the devs is some type of response of why they feel it is a fair system. As I mentioned, there in one simple exploit and the number 1 ranked character has proven it. This character has not posted a game in over a month but seems to have played the 10 game exploit to max out the score. The folks who are posting on a regular basis but are getting their scores cut by whatever margin this screwed up system is dividing their scores by makes one wonder why they should play metaverse games as they are never going to gain on the exploited number 1 spot.

Maybe the lack of a response is because the SD crew have a life and are trying to enjoy their summer. Maybe it is because they feel there is nothing wrong with their system no matter how much we point out otherwise. Who knows. I do know that have I pre-ordered the xp but if something isn't done about this scoring, or at least an explaination as to why they feel it is so great, I may have to cancel the order since I can't be certain I'll be playing GC2 when the XP comes out.

Hmmm...they seem to have fixed the line break problem. I had to go back and edit out a few < br > tags

I find this annoying as well. If they would at least change it from a cliffing affect to something more gradual that would help tremendously.

I.E.
100% for fist game
95% for two games
90% for three....

This would at least allow every game you post to up your score rather than posting a good game and seeing your score drop off the cliff.

Also it appears that there are still some betas that did not get hit by the recalc and should have. I think we are stuck with this one though. It's less of a bother if the system supports continued play as the betas become less of a factor over time.

Harder games should still get more bonus than they do. I will keep playing Suicidal, because it's more enjoyable regardless of the points issue. Besides, it's kind of nice to see where I rank by a suicidal sort

And more last whine?

How about only allowing Metaverse games to be started with 1.2 at this point? If you have already started with an older version, it’s fine to finish it under the old rev, but all new stuff should be 1.2 going forward.

Relatively new player here. I was wondering about the ranking system. I've posted 2 scores and it simply summed them. Looks to me like it just adds a set of best scores. Where does division come into play?

CraigHB As soon as you play your 6th game, your total score for all 6 games will be divided by 2. Then when you play your 11th game all 11 are divided by 3.

No, I don't see it that way. ( see below the next statements )

But first, I don't want to complain - I generally adapt very well to any great game good devs make, such as our beloved Gal Civ 2 we all adore here. Kudos to all the Stardock personnel for their tremendous job. We never express it enough

I personally don't really mind when the devs keep as a Secret d'Etat their scoring system; it's fueling some speculative debates I chime in occasionally. For instance, you enticed me guys to draw some basic though interesting stats out of my profile:

Avg MV score= 161 961. Total unfettered additions ( 13 games ) = 347 789. Global divider after 13 submissions = 2.15!

Before my latest submission, I had an average score of around 146 700, hence my 13th game shown a full score of 34 300. So 161 961 - 146 700 = 15 261, which represents 44.5 %of the latest entry. Hmmmm....still unconclusive I guess. We'll see later after some recalc?....

The reclac is all done so far as anyone can tell.

I think tbay made a small mistake in his statement though. There is a cliff at 6, but I believe the next cliff is at 16 not 11 (not there yet, based on other threads)...

Master Marcus is right about saying it is a great game. Truth be told, if it wasn't, I wouldn't have played it enough to be annoyed by what I see as a few relatively easy to fix flaws in the metaverse

Most of my games have been in the 10,000 ~ 30,000 range. How do you score 100,000 points in a game?

Here are some quick pointers for scoring...

1) People, people, and more people.

2) Keep building military units even if you don't need them. Go for weapons, they have the best cost/score ratio. So far as I can tell, your military score is based purely on your military ranking, not your success/kills in battle.

3) Turn off everything but military victories. It gives you a huge point bonus.

4) The more usable planets, the easier to raise all the above values. If you can stand a monster universe with abundant stars/planets, it’s worth the most points.

5) Play beyond the "end of the game" to let all your values build. Watch the charts for topping and quit then.

6) Suicidal is probably not worth it (points wise). Crippling is probably optimal, since higher levels take a good bit more time to complete for the points.

A max point game is usually pretty boring. I would suggest NOT doing at least a couple of the above to keep it interesting for your own play...On the other hand, if you are just cleaning up a galaxy, there is no reason to stop building ships, even if you aren’t going to use them for anything but points!

gigantic maps
crippling + difficulty
10 - 20 years game time (actually less time is better, but it takes this time to get the population which is worth more than the hit you take for taking the game out a couple years
5-6t population
Huge military presence
complete tech tree

equals
100+k scores

I have noticed over the last few days that my metaverse score seems to have been scaled down for some reason...

When I posted my recent Gigantic game it listed my points at around 69K, I am now down to 68K, is there some sort of on the fly score moderation that occurs, based on the number of people dumping scores on the 'verse and the difficulty they play these games?

Hmmm

Or have Stardock added in some sort of time related score decay in an effort to encourage you to keep posting games to maintain your position?

Hmmmm...

Yes, scores degrade by a certain percentage of their value each month (the exact amount I don't recall), until they are only valued at 65% of their face value in the total score calculation.

Thanks Kyro, personally I think that's awesome! It means that people who do the so called 10 game post exploit will have to keep up on their game in an effort to retain their top positions.

(and it also encourages you to play more Gal Civ 2... How can that be a bad thing?)

I must say, the metaverse score scenario has certainly driven me onwards to play the game more, it certainly adds a little more dimension to the game, than say would something like normal civilization, although I really wouldn't mind seeing what this game would be like in a multiplayer format.

Perhaps that can be something in the second expansion (hint, hint) or perhaps the third version of Gal Civ?
