The cost and Production values of manufacturing in version 1.2

A need for change...?

Hello I have noted that ignuss has pointed out the following in the 1.2 Changelog thread... This has made the Manufacturing Center a technology to avoid though and Industrial Sector as well to a lesser degree unless all colonies are up and running. Enhanced Factory, cost 100, produce 11. Manufacturing Center, cost 200, produce 12. Industrial Sector, cost 400, produce 16. No problem for the human player who stops research at Enhanced Factory but big problems for the ai.... In response to... + Advanced Factories produce slightly less What would the changes need to be, if any, in the PlanetImprovements.xml file for the balance to be advantageous to the AI...? Would the change need to be cost or production value, or even both..? I am assuming of course that there is a need of making a change. Does anyone else have an opinion...? As a side note - I can't use any of the formatting features of the forum (for bold, italic etc,) when using Firefox - without manually having to place the characters myself. Using IE it will work using the options on the toolbar whilst creating my post.

It would actually make more sense for the AI to incrementally do these time-intensive upgrades so that:

1. It doesn't spend ages turning all enhanced factories into manufacturing centres if industrial sectors are on the way.

2. The social production queue doesn't get clogged up with various different upgrades which may have an undesirable result when finished.

3. If a new technology is aqcuired (by espionage or trade rather than by research) then it doesn't necessarily fit with the plan and upgrades are not spammed into social production queues everywhere.

4. If upgrades are bought rather than built, then money should not wasted by upgrading through an intermediate. In other words, you should get some weeks of return on your investment before throwing more money about.

Personally, I prefer to research at least 2 levels of upgrade at once, otherwise you are forever upgrading and military and research points are greatly reduced while you upgrade.

With Factories I try to research up to Enhanced factory, then later up to Manufacturing Centre, leaving the Industrial Sector as the very last upgrade of any building. Its not the increase in social production Im after, its the ability to add more modules to my Economic Starbases around my large Research planets and Starbases over the Research/Economic/Influence/Moral/Miliatary resources.

Im just about to update to the full version of 1.2, but the beta of 1.2 had an inconsistancy where the Bank costs more to build than the Stock Market. I use this to my advantage as I usually reaearch through the market/bank/stock market quickly, while awaiting the Stock Market research to finish I ensure my planets only build just over halfway on each bank (I build 4 on each planet) and when the research finishes they are instantly upgraded or only a turn away from being upgraded.
