Latest cheeze tactic: All AIs gang up on player even if they are on good terms with him

Nobody is allied with anyone, and yet, because I am at war with 2 races (one until the Altarians joined in), and they are depleting my armada (though I replace them almost as fast as they are destroyed, meanwhile decimating their armadas), the whole galaxy decides to join in, race by race, even the one race I get along very well with who donated three ships to me when the Altarians decided they wanted to play tag.

This has more cheese than Kraft!
Why is it the only way for the game to beat a player is to pump up the Cheez Whiz until it's flowing out every orifice?

Alliances should be damn expensive, after you have it they pretty much trade you anything you ask for for a very very cheap price, and to top it off, they never backstab you as far as I know.

You can sure screw them though

How much did you pay to make an alliance?
To win them, I paid all my best techs, except for soldiering techs and cultural encroachement techs.
Because those two techs are my most devestating weapons, and therefore the ones I fear most.

When this first happened to me (everyone started attacking me as they saw what I was starting to do) I was impressed with the game. One second I felt all powerful and the next thing I know I have 3 people at war with me. This forced me to rethink my game and how I attack.

this was a general advise. i find half of the posts in this forum to be flame, cause ppl just write what comes to their mind no matter it fits to the topic, or they try to explain but failed to understand what the poster wanted to know or the situation they were describing.

@bodyless
I was just being sensitive as your post immediately followed mine. It is never my intention to flame people, but I do often disagree with them. I try to read and understand before I reply. In this case I felt the OP complaints about the AI were unjustified and that the new behaviour was actually an improvement that should be applauded.

I would love to be on the losing end of a gang pile on just once. Be grateful for a quality challenge instead of whining.

My first game on tough I had 4 AI attack me within 3 turns any one or even two I could of handle with no problems but having four come at from all direction was just overwhelming and even though taking down 6-7 ships to every one lost, I was overrun in 10 turns.

It was awesome and taught not to ignore Dip techs in favour of weapons only.

in my games the AI is mostly not colonizing anything, Thalan and Drath do nothing, the rest is extremely slow. this never happened before the 1.2beta, so there is something going on with the AI. No idea what. I cant remember the last "good" game, mostly I quit a game after like 1-2 years because I see my empire is like 2x larger then all other empires together, by that time I could overrun anything. Strange.

The AI currently has a bug where it sets its own difficulty to beginner, totally at random. Check race difficulty.

But this whole thread cracks me up. Like BoogieBac said, SD will never win this. The poster is actually whining about now losing because the AI is being clever.
If you can't stand the heat, get out of the kitchen

The AI can be over sensitive at times. I was taking the last few planets of my enemy which included a planet in a system that was inhabited by three races, the one I was at war with and 2 I had warm relations with. I destroyed the defences protecting the planet of my enemy and my transport was on the way. The transport was 1 move short of the target planet so I hit end turn. The next thing I knew the other 2 races sent the "we know what you're doing" message and declared war. I had no interest in fighting these two races, they had totally misread the signals.

@sxt178
Agreed, but it has always been like that. The behaviour with nearby transports is particularly lame if the transport has just been given to you by the AI concerned (in trade or as support to your war effort against a common foe). It makes the AI look totally schiztophrenic.

But I think an AI that is a little schitzofrenic is a good thing. I don't want it to be predictable. I want to need to walk quietly around it to avoid aggravating it. I want it to go off on me if it sees a threat. 1.2 is the first quality release for the AI in this game (as far as making war - well, and developing planets) and I am happy to see it.
