Brad hates it when people say "something needs doing", but...

I think you will all agree that galciv2 has been the best supported game in history.
Moo3 did well for its day
Sid's Civs did ok
Paradox games set a new bench mark
But the speed of improvement with gal civ2 is staggering.

What I think needs doing is giving back something to stardock. How can we do that?
We praise (well most of us) stardock here, but that is like kissing your sister - it doesnt count.

I think we need some way of telling people outside our little world about this game and its tremendous support. I dunno what do people suggest that will be effective? Spamming mags or game websites is just likely to piss people off.

Gal civ 2 has sold damn well considering it is only sold in a limited number of outlets. I had to get my wife to email a freind in canada to get mine !

When the expansions come out and in the far distant future gal civ3 outlets should be hammering on stardock's door for copies.

Any ideas? A petition maybe to game mags etc.

I think the best things you can do are:

1 - Buy the game and any expansion packs you use, don't pirate them or help anyone else do it
2 - Give honest and fair commentary about the game on this site and any other where you discuss it
3 - Ask for any future products by name from your preferred place of purchase
4 - Read reviews on it and give good feedback on the reviews that are fair and unbiased and bad on the others
5 - Anytime you see a poll anywhere about GC2, what products you like etc, take the time to vote positively for GC2
6 - Tell anyone that might be interested in the game what you think about it

Considering the amount of shouting the gaming community needs to do in order to get a patch released, Stardock is providing amazing support!

Ive played computer games since the PC started in 81, and the Apple b4 that. GC and GC2 have been in the top ten IMO.

Ive played MANY games online (yes, im THAT Star Dagger) and of all the communities, i think the GC2 community is the most civil (prolly another positive of not having multiplayer)

Ive alread told a number of people about the game and intend to mention it at any appropriate time.

CGW is really the best gaming mag, their reviews are like law for me. They also give exposure to indies like SD, so that job is half done.

For people who play the more mainstream strat games i would suggest that if you are in a clan, to mention how incredible not only the game is, but the wonder people who support it an the people who make mods, gf, fx, etc.

...what? O.O Fanmade modifications don't really count as "support".

Falcon 4.0 Allied Force is the best supported game in the world. Originally developed by companies no longer in existence, for Windows 98, back in 1995-1999, includes multiplayer support for peer to peer, host only, and a combination, a sophisticated simulation of the Avoinics and flight model for the F-16, allows you to play in single player execute missions like a real pilot, missions are created dynamically and are the real world equilavent of actually flying a mission. The latest developer talks about their patches, the current patch and the one following on beyond that. Truely an amazing thing for a game over a decade old. But Gal Civ II has some pretty good support too. So far.

Oppps my blunder. I meant Moo2. That DID get some official modifications to UI and gameplay in its 3 patches.

As for Moo3, well it is a useful game - for resting your coffee mug on.

Although I almost hate to say it, you have to admit that one reason Stardock's able to give such exemplary support for this game is that they don't really have any other large games to support. At least, not that I am aware of.

Know why the latest Civ IV patch took so long to be released? It was because of Oblivion.

However, even considering that, it's still clear that Stardock has gone above and beyond in its support for GCII.
