1.11 Patch - where did all the minor races go?

I haven't played in a while, but after getting an email about the 1.11 patch being released and finally getting it downloaded & activated, I finally play a game with it.

Only to notice about halfway through that there are no minor races. Neither ones placed at the start, nor new ones popping up from time to time. And yes, I made sure that I didn't select "Disable Minor Races"

So I try it again, and again, no minor races.

???? Anyone else get this? The only thing in common is that both are on gigantic, with the maximum number of opponents.

I've played 2 games on medium, I had 2 or so minors both games.

same problem here
I played severals games (small galaxy) and haven't seen any minor races (since V1.0)

I played at least two games with 1.11 using large maps, maximum opponents, normal and challenging difficulty.
I do have minor races (two or so).

I remember when the game was new there used to be a lot of minor races, now there might be two at most in a map, as said above.

So I too wonder why. Minor races are fun

The number of minor races goes down when the number of major races goes up. If you have 9 AI players then you'll be luicky to have one minor, but if you have less, you'll get more. I'm playing a large map right now, and have 3 minors and 7 majors (actually 6- the Thalans were annexed into the Terran Republic). But 3 minors with that set up is pretty normal for me.

Most I have had recently is 2. Proberbly just as well as they did get exploited a lot.

I wonder could we get the number of minor races to be selectable, like with planets and stars, say ocassional, abundant etc.

I have the same problem.

I started playing with V 1.11 and have never seen a minor race. They don't turn up no matter if I check or uncheck the box - at first I thought the box was somehow reversed or the german translation was wrong.
I even started a 1 vs 1 game in a medium galaxy to provide enough space for the minors, but that didn't work either.

They probably wanted to stop the "trading technology for money" thing... it allowed you to keep 100% spending policy from the first turn on and still make profits.

I have seen minor races in my various games. I even had new minor races pop up several times during 1 game! Not much help I know, but they do exist.
