Is it possible to mod/remove starting ships?

I know that using a custom map will make all starting ships to disappear unless you put them yourself on the said map
but I would like to use a random map instead

so does anyone know of another way to mod/remove them ?
I tried going through shipcfg files, but no one seems to be the "flagship" that you get at start only
any idea ?

thanks for reading

The "flagship" is a "survey vessel"-class medium-hull ship with a custom name.

So does that mean you can remove them? I'd rather it be an in-game option than a mod... I'm guessing modifications don't allow metaverse submissions.

i'm quite sure that the core ships are hardcoded.

what i did, was take the core ships and flavor them myself so that they are included from the start of the game. once the game is loaded.. i make the core ships obsolete, leaving me with my beauties to play with.

the only one i didn't change was the flagship. no point to it really.

Is it still the case that you can't alter the ships you are given at the start?

I'm trying to create a 'decelerated start' mod where every race starts out with no tech, no money and no ships on a normal random map. The first two things were easy enough, but I haven't found a way to stop the game giving out free ships.

i believe that the only ship you have to start with is the flag ship/survey ship

but i don't know how to remove any of them

You simply can't. A random map requires a flagship type(survey) to be generated, meaning you'll always start with a survey ship. Despite this, you can alter the ships appearance like socially hazardous said.

You can't start a normal sandbox game without the two (three in DA) basic starting ships. You can, however, modify the component loadouts for them in GC2Ships.xml so that they can't survey, etc, or strip them entirely down to bare hulls if you like. That game will crash though if you try to remove the definitions completely.
