License?

I'd like to use DesktopX Pro to create a custom desktop that I can install on all of my PCs that I build for customers. Do I need a license for each PC?

DX standard is needed to create the desktop. DX client is needed to run the desktop. https://www.stardock.com/products/desktopx/purchase.asp

No, you need an Enterprise License, I believe.

From this page: Link

You may not use the DesktopX Professional software to export entire desktop environments as gadgets (stand alone programs). If you wish to build distributable desktops contact us about licensing DesktopX Enterprise.

Client:
Load alternative desktops created by others.

Standard:

Create & export desktops

I guess the part that counts is "as gadgets"

One can't make and distribute an *.exe (gadget) that applies a desktop. But you can apply *.desktop files all you want.

[I think]

yeah, you can create the desktop files but the target system has to have desktopx to run it.

I believe it's akin to using Theme Mgr OEM which comes with the installers.

Theoretically, I'm guessing (since the singular would be an entire desktop environment as a gadget)you could create an entire d.e. but to not violate any licensing agreements, each part would have to be a separate gadget. That would eat too much of your system.
