Galactic Guidebook needs revision

Hey ya'll,

Just a word about the Galactic Achievement "Galactic Guidebook" ... It sucks. By the time anyone can get around to building it, most if not all of the anomalies in the universe have been discovered and explored, and even if there are some left over it's not so many that your flagship can't pick them up anyways or in a scenario with abundant anomalies it's just as well to design a survey ship and build a couple of them as opposed to using up a lot of precious early game resources building the Guidebook when it may be useless by the time it's finished anyways.

I would suggest re-tooling it and adding some additional bonus or function for the Galactic Guidebook and make it a project worth investing in. It doesn't have to be mind-blowing - I understand that it's based off the sensors research line, which doesn't take a lot of time to get through, but it would be nice if the Guidebook's utility was something that lasted throughout the course of the game - even if it's a minor utility - as opposed to the survey module deal which becomes useless pretty quickly.

Great game, keep up the brilliant work!

Additonally, I believe that it is currently bugged. I think the survey modules still take up space, even after it is built.

Actually, I prefer a complete deletion of the GGB. It's a good idea but anomaly hunting is over pretty quickly even on a gigantic map, as Liberesio so kindly pointed out. It would be okay if anomalies re-appeared like in GC but as far as I've seen, they don't so that eliminates the need for the GGB. Just my two cents which is about all I'm worth.

It comes with Sensors-2, costs 400 points to build, and doesn't affect size. The description in-game states

Reduces the cost of the Survey Module to zero, allowing you to equip any ship to explore anomalies.

A Survey module costs 45bc and 8 hull spaces +5% per hull size. From tiny to huge, that's 9, 10, 11, 13 and 15 hull spaces. Most weapons, defenses and engines cost 7%-10% size increase, so Survey modules actually eat up additional space slower than other equipment. (Missile weapons are an exception: They don't expand to fill the hull space, they start huge).

Anyway, the phrase "allowing you to equip any ship to explore anomalies" seems to me to suggest a hull cost reduced to zero, rather than a price reduction to zero bc. If it were a hull cost reduction, then it would be a much more useful device.

If that were the case, then it would be worthwhile earlier in the game, but Survey Modules become available with Sensors-1, and so it is used as a reason to buy Sensors-2. I only go there to get to the end and get Eyes of the Universe, a valuable tech. So it's not doing that for me. Perhaps moving it back a tech requirement to Sensors-1, or reducing the research cost of the tree to that point so it happens earlier. The 400 build point cost might also need some tweeking, if it's moved to earlier in the game, because it will represent a much larger investment.
