WindowBlinds classic for W2000 not showing skins

I desperately want to use WindowBlinds on a PC running w2000 (for reasons I won't go into here, I can't upgrade the machine to XP).

I installed WindowBlinds classic (v4) ok, but it doesn't show any skins in the application except 'Windows Classic'.  I can see lots of samples in directories under the WindowsBlinds directory, but none in the application.

Any assistance appreciated.

Thanks, Sharyn

Did you reboot after the install? By "application" you mean WindowBlinds Configuration Dialog?

Also, check the Skins tab of Display Properties & be sure the "Prevent WindowBlinds from loading at startup" item is NOT checked.

Thanks for your help Daiwa.

Yes, I rebooted after installation.

Yes, by application I mean 'WindowBlinds Advanced Configuration' dialogue box.

The 'Prevent... loading...' item in the display properties is NOT ticked.

browse to the skins folder and double click one and see what happens

Sorry to be a gumby, but what is the extension of the file I need to double click - is it the uis file?

I went ahead and double clicked the UIS file, associated wbload and got a Windows message saying hopefully "A skin called " has been installed, you can apply this from the Appearance tab..."

However it still doesn't show up in the Display properties Skins or Appearance tabs, nor in the configuration app.

did you install everything to the default paths or other?

You should be double-clicking a file with an extension of .wba, not .uis. If you right-click the Download button for the skin in WinCustomize, select "Save Target As..." & save the skin in a folder somewhere, it should be a file with a .wba extension. Double-clicking that "installs" the skin by WB unzipping its contents into a folder in the "right" place.

Yes, everything is in the default path/s.

Oh, yes sorry, I misunderstood.  I have previously double clicked .wba files and it appears to install ok - I can see the relevant subdirectories, and files in them, so that appears to work ok.  I thought you meant for me to double click one of the files in one of the subdirectories.

Since nothing else has worked, couldn't lose anything by doing a complete uninstall, reboot & fresh re-install.

The same problem? You using Win2000? WB5 won't run on it.

Common,of course I have XP.You now when off and start comp WB5 won't load and only classic skins work. You must come back to default windows skin then again start WB and chose skin again.Thats only way for me to work. Thanks for your answer.

1. are you using a trial version (time may be out) or paid version?
2. if paid version, did you have a trial 1st? and did you fully uninstall then reboot prior to install?
3. if the paid, did you install as a stand a lone download (normal browser, download) or did you download through SDC (Stardock Central - Stardock's browser)?
4. did you ever run a cracked version?
5. do you have styleXP or a hacked uxtheme dll?
6. running any other desktop enhancement programs that could possible conflict with WB?

1.full paid version
2.I have WB4 before WB5 and I do everything :uninstall.reboot, install then i read about clening traces, find a zipp and clean with that and mannualy erase everything from registry.Yes I do everything about install and uninstall.
3.standalone download
4.We don, talk about cracking on forums, are we?Thats no matter if you have serial. No i don't have cracked version.
5.I don't like to hacking my PC like that.I have some vista skins but i have problems before instaling them.
6.I have Object Dock but that is stardock app.
When I turn to WB 4 everything is ok.
I don't now what is problem.Something blocking WB5 when loading on start up.

Lost access to my computer for little while...sorry.

Re version of WB4 - according to the wb.txt file it's 4.6 [8/8/05] (couldn't find version number in the app itself).

Hmmph...ok. I checked my registry and found a few Stardock entries with bizarre characters in them under WBLiteFX - OverridexxxxUIS. I changed them to _Disabled, and now I can see the skins.

Happy.
