War is a thing of the past & I don't wanna fix up my planet

They've cut off my balls, so i'm not playing anymore.....

What happened? The game has become an exercise in building sandcastles.

No more war. The new and 'improved' AIs no longer declare war. This has got have something to do wih that fear factor algorithm that has been introduced recently - "Aggressive AIs will think twice before going around conquering because they know the other civs will gang up on them" Great idea man, unfortunately it works too bloody well. The only wars i have seen in my last few sandbox games have been trivial. And I can't get people to fight each other anymore - They want more than all my tech +cash + goodies. What? you've neutered GC2. The Galaxy is no longer a dangerous place, its all peace and love in space.

As for AI planets: I normally spend a fortune on espionage and I map the galaxy quickly too. Cos i want to take it all. The AI is rubbish with planetary improvements. I've seen worlds with no factories, 4 farms (one of which was on a yellow research bonus tile - sacriledge!), 4 embassies, a starport and a fleet management(Worst Improvement ever) and the palnet was building a frigate. Which would be ready in over a hundred and fifty turns. oh yeah the population was a mere 6.5b. This is arguably one of the worst ones i have seen, but i would not be complaining if this was an isolated case. this is accross the board. All the AIs are guilty of having more than half their worlds underproducing.

I play on masochistic with loose clusters and abundant everything. But, If this is the state of the AI no wonder they're just about able to match me(Even with a 200% bonus). The AI has huge fleets but they're not building them - they are buying them. My thought is that if they become more efficient with their planets they would be able to kill me on this difficulty level.

But there is a plus side - The enemy AI ships are fantastic now - powerfull and upgraded regularly. Well done on that side of things. Its just a shame that you had to go and cut off their balls while sharpening their teeth.

And also the Campaign is much more challenging now, unfortunately there seems to be a bug in the DL defences. If the DL ship has a defensive rating in shields say, it seems to have the same rating in armour and point defence too. But no matter, i'm still killing em an loving it.

If you are really happy with your "no war is good thing". can we have an option for aggressive AI's in the setup prior to the game please?

Please can you address these two problems, they are real, and they weaken the game - especially the poor planet management.

I'm going to load 1.11 now and see how it does. here's hoping

thanks for listening.

P.S. Love your work Stardock

sorry for double post...oops

i second that opinion

my last games there were no real wars going on
only exception was my last game where like 5 turns before my tech victory the drengin and yor (both strong) started fighting and the korx (medium) attacked me (weak military, strong economy and way superior tech)
but this happends some turns before tech victory, the whole time before and the games before that the universe was a quiet and peaceful place
not risking a full scale war is a great thing to implement but the AI should still go for those "tasty targets" like a weak defended lvl 20 planet right next to their border whenever they can - its simply worth a war

I don't know.. I am playing Vers. 1.1 and the AI is hella aggressive still, and even though the Drengin and Yor are aggresively kicking ass, and had the whole known galaxy fighting them, they did well...

I dunno, in the 3 games I have played (1.1) the AI has declared war on me VERY early in two of them, and in the middle of the other. Also, in every game there was war raging all over the galaxy between the different civilizations.

Ya use latest versions if your going to complain.

Last game i played there was a Galactic War. There was no one person that wasnt at war during this time. 2 out of 8 races at the time died off before piece was reistabled. What you wil see in the game is similar to real life. There will be times where there Peace (50% of the time more or less) small war (like 1v1 and there barely trying 25%) or a galactic war that ends usualy with people dieing and piece rippling threw (happens about 25%). Thats what i have been noticing. There are ways to adjust this ofcourse, allieing with everyone, being THE super power.

I agree with Frookie.

Interesting...

I am playing 1.1 on Normal level and the AI's can't stop fighting amongst themselves. Then I got the assassination event and the Altairans declared war on me. Maybe your strategy is too good for that difficulty level?

Cheers,
Reaver

make a weak military and go evil if u want more war unless ur ai's are evil then go good. however i seem to be coming across simular tamed ai (nutless wonders??) i play custom race called strongbadia and i usllay turn off yor since they do the lest for me, so im playing a large map on medium and gonna for the tech victory since the only war was dregian attacking 3 or 4 people at once. i got tired of being asked for tech and money so i went in and took the Home World and then say that i kept it out of the draths hands so thats good. i just seems that with how im encorching on human spacem with culture, they would be more aggressive. i only have 10 cheats revanges's (large hull) and 6 populaton tires (troop ships)

agressive ai button would be nice however i feel the current ai set up is more realistic

@heroine4life are you keeping logs of your games and performing analysis regularly? If not then refrain from passing over meaningless percentages please, there's a good girl.

As for v1.11 I do beleive that they would only be addressing part of the problem - less embassy building. Read the logs, i am not expecting much from it, but i will say that the save/load times have improved. wehey!

Reaver - my strategy is okay, but i'm rarely at the top of the food chain. the drengin + yor are way ahead of me usually. the real problem is the arceans - they build up fast and just sit there on their throne of omnipotence and do nothing. they're not vey good at teching up either.

Sirusx - The problem with having a weak military on Masochistic[abundant] is that it is virtually impossible to catch up with the AI once they get too far ahead. they buy those ships, think how much goes into their pockets each turn for this to be a feasible policy for them? 6000bc per turn? More?

Thankyou Megavolt, schraderman and Noah for backing me on the fact that space is no longer a dangerous place. Bring the kids - have a picnic....Don't mind those drengin over there, they're on holiday too!

As for the more important problem - poor planet management. I'm really surprised that no-one is saying anything. If the ai starts to get better at improving its planet build we all might have to go down a level of difficulty or two. Now that would be great!

I'm wondering whether the planet build has anything to do with time allocated to each AI at the end of the turn. Stardock have been discussing the possibility of new, more time consuming algorithms designed to improve AI effectiveness, hopefully some of this will go towards the planet build. It really is needed.
