Universal translator bug

Ai can't declare war

There is a bug that happens when you don't reaserch translator. You can declare war on the ai by attacking but they can't declare war. Also you can have UP meeting befor you can talk. You can trade races translator but they can't trade it to you. Also if you are alone in a corner then You can make laws that other races must follow when you meet them. This is because UP only includes races YOU contacted.
So the tanslator and UP needs some work stardock.
P.S. love the game!!

Yeah. Ok. And? Is there a point ? It works as it was designed to, not a bug.

It's a good point. Tyr is exactly right that there are some things that, while working "as designed," is inconsistent with the overall design of the game (for example, the universal translator breaks parity between human and AI players). So yeah, maybe the way it was designed can be improved. Either both players should need it to start talking or one player should need it, but whatever is the case it should work the same for human and AI players. It doesn't now.

Think about it.

You control the UP completely, by not researching Universal Translators.

You control all warfare in the galaxy, by not researching UT, because nobody can declare war on you.

Definitely not something the progammers ever intended, it completely imbalances the game.

I ment you still can vote in UP befor you can talk.
if you are alone in a corner then you control the up not if you don't reasearch UT.
Sorry if I wasen't clear.

If you never reasearch UT noone will ever declare war on you? As in noone will ever attack you?

If that's true doesn't that mean an automatic tech or influence victory? That's pretty cheese.

The most realistic fix would be that the AI will attack you to declare war and theres no way to negotiate peace without UT.

Also the first UP meeting should include all races automatically and you should get contact with every race automatically after the first UP meeting.

OR the first UP meeting is delayed until you have met all alien races.

Just tried this in an actual game. Poured all my resources and planets into research and went for a tech victory, without researching UT.

Doesn't work. I went head to head as Yor against Terrans and they pretty much slaughtered me. They didn't declare war at all. They pretty much just attacked my constructor without reason or cause and then started to take me out one planet at a time. On the other hand, I didn't really even research Warfare and was crushed within... 12 turns.

Would of been neat to play with, but just doesn't hold.

Hi!

I agree. If my race wants to talk to other race, it needs the UT. However other races don't need UT to talk, trade etc. I thought that was valid only for Terrans, but after trying Thalan and Yor I got the same result. No talk for me, free talk for them. A glitch.

Tested this out, and it doesn't work.

Set habitable, stars and planets to the lowest setting, tiny galaxy, and refused to research UT, and not only do they attack you, but they are particularly vicious about it, maybe because you are snubbing them all.

You get to vote in the UT, yes, but so does every other race who has attempted to talk to you, even though lack of UT prevented you from understanding them.

I've never been gang-banged by the rest of the galaxy so fast, didn't make it through the first year.
