Crashed PC , won't boot!!!!

Downloaded Object Desktop last night. Just trying it for the first time today. I loaded a wb theme, then a cursor theme (bought cursorxp pro also), then decided to try desktopx. I downloaded a theme from this sight, sorry I can't remember which one, then my pc froze on loading theme. I did a hard shutdown and powered back up. Now, every time I try and boot up, my pc gets stuck while booting, reloads to the dos type screen "error booting blah blah, could be caused by software or hardware changes, blah blah". Anyone who knows about computers knows what I'm talking about.
So I boot into safe mode, and first tried to change the desktopx theme back to windows default through theme manager, but it won't take. So after another reboot to safe, I then uninstall desktopx through sdc. Still same problem happening. So I go to msconfig/startup, and turn off everything not needed (wasnt much, I run a clean system). Still no fix. I'm now writing this in safe mode, and ruining my sunday wasting time trying to fix this. Help PLEASE!!!!

Did you try a system restore in safe mode?

Thank you for the quick reply Stone, but no, I disabled system restore. I don't use it for several reasons. One being many virus/trojans can hide there, and if I get hit bad enough, it's a pain in the ###, but since I pay my bills, do banking, and shop online, if it comes to that I would feel safer doing a clean install. Plus, after a restore, it leaves clutter behind. Also, I'm a performance freak... ODT is the only "unnecessary" thing I've tried running. Last, I like to know what causes a problem, and learn to fix it myself, instead of depending on something like restore.

Lol, that said, I finally got it to boot using "last good configuration". Though, now I kinda feel like I wasted my money. DX was one of the main reasons I bought ODT, and now I'm scared to use it. With the problems I've just read it has with Norton, and now this. Any ideas of what could have caused it? I would like to use it, but not if it means risking a crash every time I try.

I'm not sure but I think I've heard that Norton causes issues, I think, with DesktopX. You might wanna search this site to see if you can find something. I beleive it has something to do with scripts.

Don't quote me on anything....

All righty, got it sorted (I hope). Thanks for the help stone. After I got windows to boot normally, I uninstalled DX, cleaned out the registry, then reinstalled. Seems to be working now. Only thing was, after that WB stopped working correctly. If I loaded a skin, it just distorted the size of my bar, but wouldn't skin anything. Did a reinstall on that as well, and now things are working ok, at least they were yesterday. I'll find out when I get off work, lol. Didn't seem to be Norton, I guess Norton fixed that bug (maybe put wb on the "safe" list, or changed the way it scans scrippting?). The only things I have changed compared to the first install, is "hide desktop icons" wasn't selected, and fx was off. Can't think of anything else that could of caused it aside from a corrupt install. Thanks again for the quick response stone.
