Growing Research and Economy Planets

Looking for strategy tips from better players than I.

How do you guys manage to get decent production on your economy and research planets? I always build two factories on each which, when a farm and entertainment center is added, usually leaves room for only 4-6 economy or research facilities on the planet. Problem is it takes forever and a day to build anything on any of these planets because my production is so low!

How have other people solved this problem? Any thoughts?

Also, can anyone explain this situation to me: I have a planet with the typical starting base as well as a factory built on a 300% production bonus. My spending is at 90% and my military/social production is set to 35% and 25% respectively. However the planet is only generating 2 military production and 3 social production. Shouldn't I be getting a LOT more out of the starbase and that 300% factory? Thanks for anyone's thoughts on either of these questions!

For me, I find that 3 factories on each Res/Eco world to be about the best balance between build time and cost. I do however make it a point to research better factories before I tech up the buildings to keep the build times resonable Usually shooting for manufacturing centres. I haven't found a significant enough advantage to industrial sectors to justify the time it takes to build them. Once the planet is upgraded to stock exchanges or nlc's(typically play neutral) then I will build over one of the factories and use the planet to produce constructors/troop transports for the rest of the game.

Fun fact: if you build a hardcore-enough production planet, it can become a high-quality research planet by focusing on research. My really high-end production planets are typically able to pump out ridiculous production while fully focused on research.

So, outside of small research planets (who only become useful when they hit NLCs anyway) and special tiles, I don't bother much with research buildings. Unless I have some spare tiles on a manufacturing or economy world.

As for getting econ worlds to work, xeno farms are cheap to build, as are bank buildings. Entertainment buildings aren't especially expensive either. With two factories (and focusing on social production), I can get enough production to make them work adequately.

I go for 4 factories. If it is a very large planet, I go for 6. Then I go for all the things I need for a research or a economy planet. Once the planet is developed, I convert some of the extra factories back into the primary purpose of the planet.

That way, I'm not waiting forever to get the benefit out of my planets.

Focus on social is the key.
At least for my smaller planets which have no more then 2 factories.
That gives enough edge to finish buildings a bit quicker.

Biggers ones get at least 3 or 4 factories.

If I'm lucky enough to get a +27, hello econ cap. 3 Factores. 12 Intense farms. 5 morale structures. An econ capital, and stock markets all the way.

100bil pop means it's uninvadable, and the fact I don't waste social/military just means more money

12 Intense farms.

The problem with going higher than Xeno Farming is that it's hard to control happiness without using up 4-5 tiles of the most powerful morale buildings. So not only do you have to go up the farming tree, but you have to take the morale tree too. I can generally get plenty of money treating such a world with only 18Billion people.

I always remember Economy=Money=Tax. To get a good economy going, you need a huge tax base, which means you need a lot of tax payers (population). So when you get a new large world say class 18, i buy a factory, focus social, build factory, build entertainment centre, build 1 farm, build economic buildings. Then when the pop is maxed out, build more farms.

Ferry your population around from your heavily populated planets to the new one so that it can grow faster.

Hi!

I had the same problem on one of my planets. There was a factory on a 300% bonus tile, but was producing only as a normal factory, despite the details screen said it has 40 production. After upgrading to the advanced factory the bonus finaly started working.
