Selecting the 'right' political party.....

Selecting the 'right' political party.....

Choices choices

Hello

I thought of staring a game as the Drengin and looked at selecting the War Party (not sure if that is a good idea or not) as my political party.
I have noticed that the Drengins have racial abilities which include...

Weapons +20
Soldiering +20

If I selected the War party that adds...

Weapons +10
Soldiering +15
Defence +10

So, it might be an obvious question but some things don't seem to work in an obvious way in this game, are those bonuses that the political party gives to you added to your racial abilities..? In my case that would mean...

Weapons +30
Soldiering +35

Does anyone have any thoughts that they would like to share on the emphasis that they place on selecting a political party with considering their racial abilities...? Whilst I appreciate the selection will depend on the type of victory that you would want I would still be interested in reading other peoples ideas.

For warmongers, the +1 sensor bonus for Technologists is worth more than the other bonuses. In player vs. player, I would expect the same. Being able to see is worth a lot in tight situations. It is like a mini-mini-Eyes of the Universe.

Defense is absolutely worthless. Get eyes of the universe, get your logistics up, decent weapons techs and you'll have swarms of fighters that kill off entire fleets easily.

Soldiering bonuses from the party are a bit worthless too. The AI doesn't really value them and you can bum rush the soldiering tech really quickly and have a game long advantage over the AI.

Morale, Population growth, and economy are the way to go.

Sorry, but no. I don't give a crap if I can rush at ships, if I'm surrounded by an armada without defences, that 1000BC 10 maintenance ship that costs more to rush buy than a trade good is toast. I don't like wasting money. I've made single ships (not designs, one ship) that have won wars, simply because my defences, bonuses, and starbases mean no fleet in the universe will counter it.

If you have an individual fighter that has never been fleeted, yet destroys navy's, at level 54 then feel free to tell me defence is worthless.

I agree with morale and pop, but economy isn't a bother if you manage planets efficiently. I'm able to (large map rare planets) chuck out a fleet in a turn and make 1400bc in the process.

It seems to me that in theory, using overwhelming attack or super defense ships are essentially the same in that their aim at doing lethal damage without getting any.

However.........

However defence has survivability. Chuck on one weapon and all the defences you can fit onto a huge hull, and it will last a hell of a lot longer than anything else.
