Disable Conquest Victory?

OK, so I'm just half-serious, but this would introduce the possibility of a power-player actually losing a game by not treading softly enough (eliminate all races = no win, last race surrenders to you = no win, last planet falls to influence = no win).
Would surely mean an interesting game, don't you think? A game with Alliance Victory only, where you'd better keep the "closest" race alive until the end or face working an enemy over to your side?

Having an alliance victory only game might be very difficult since it would not stop wars and it could get very tedious in the end.

I do see your point but doubt I would enjoy such a game, mainly because I don't like unexpected outcomes like losing because someone unexpectedly surrenders to me. I want to have control over the outcome to the extent that I either win or lose without fate having a hand in it.

Years ago I played CTP and lost a long game on an anomalous event. I never played that game again.

if you go neutral it really isnt hard to ally up with everyone and have a fast no fun alliance victory, i see your point, just doesnt seem like it would be fun to me

It would be interseting but to "unreal" to be interseting long enough to play for long...does that make since?
You control the entire galaxy but are not a winner?

As a way of making the game challenging I'm experimenting with only allowing myself to win by alliance victory, and I have to play as evil.
