Taking our own sweet time for each turn...

Aahh... these TBS games does really satisfy the Obsessive Compulsive streak in me, the perfectionist inside who can't bear to see resources go to waste and will fine-tune every spending down to the single bc's or IPs...

Which makes me wonder, how much time do other TBS players out there take before they complete each turn? Me, on average, I spend anywhere between 5 mins to 30 mins each turn, fiddling with sliders to optimize spending on individual planets, tech trade to the death, calculating distances of one-shot consumable ships (colony, constructors, freighters) destination away from its shipyard planet and designing a ship with most cost efficient speed for the purpose... upgrading my ship designs to be most cost & space optimal...

which also brings out another question: how do multiplayer TBS work, when players might take eternities just to take a single move? I heard Civ4 got MP, i never tried the game myself. Anyone who does, care to shine a light on this mystery?

You are someone after my own heart.

I marvel at those who seem to play multiple games in a matter of hours. For me, the true enjoyment of a TBS is to immerse yourself, to savor each turn like a fine wine.

Glad to see someone else out there plays the same way...I was beginning to wonder if I was really weird....

Multiplayer would likely have an option to have a time limit per turn that moves the game ahead, I'm pretty sure Civ4 had a changeable time limit.

My turns take 1 or 2 minutes on average. Only a little longer when designing a new ship or rethinking my militarly or social production. Rather then tweaking, its important to have a flexible plan, change if the AI starts to counter your plan. This works great for me, played 10 games from normal to highest lvl (suicidal or whatever it is).

I play slowly too. My last game, on the largest galaxy with everything abundant, took about 3 1/2 days to complete.
I'm not too interested in the smaller maps, I like epics with max opponents.

Some turns take me quite a while to take, other times I might take 5 or 6 turns in a row. At some points in the late early game there isn't much to do while you wait for things to build and techs to research. All the colonies are taken, the resources are mined, and you don't really have the means to start on a navy yet.

About 3-4 hours per game year.
