How often does this occur to you?

AI war question

In my last game with all Intelligent opponents with B4A I had the Iconians declare war on me. Ok sure that happens all the time . But anyway they never sent a single ship into my empire. It was fairly early in the game so I had things like undefended planets and star bases without offenses or defenses so it wasn't like there weren't targets of opportunity. Well this war lasted for I'd have to say well over a game year with nothing happening. I didn't attack them and they didn't attack me. Finally they asked me for peace. Just wondering if this is behavior others have seen. So to recap the entire war 0 ships lost, 0 ships destroyed, and 0 troops deployed. Heck I didn't even see a single scout ship of theirs.

By contrast the Dregin in the same game decided I didn't need to breathe air anymore and promptly wiped me out. This was of course after they had pounded on the Altarians for a bit I guess in an attempt to bump up the experience of their battle fleets before coming after me. Needless to say I've got to modify my game plan a little in terms of what to expect from the AI and when . All good in my book.

Oh and one last observation. I understand that the AI sees high external influence on its planets as a threat. But it's not my fault they decided to colonize the one PQ6 planet I left open within my borders. I mean it's not like I built a bunch of influence starbases right next to it or anything. The planet is just in my already defined borders. So there might need to be some tweaks needed to that algo to answer the question along the lines of *where is the external influence coming from?* If it's from starbases then ok get mad. If it is because that is the only planet of the AI's surrounded by dozens of mine then maybe the AI should have thought twice about colonizing there .

The Drengin never attacked me...

...perhaps because I have always very evil civs. So they use to ally up with me

But the Alterians and Drath always declare war on me early in the game, because"You are too evil..."

For me I like killing everyone off at the start. I used to go for tech victory but went with a more faster way. I put all the points in weo/def/and millitary production. My part I set to war party and in the begginging I go for invasion. When I get it I start making tons of troop trassports and take over the intire map. LOL I was like respected by one civ but after killing 2 civs every otehr rave went to hostile. Not one of them ever declared war on me it was always me declaring war. i always use a tiny map with every civ set to sup-normal so I dont know If it will work for high lvl AIs but someoen said never stay in war more than 5 turns. In war other civs boost there ships incase they have to go to war too. The funny thing is that I was still the strongest empire in the game using the weakest ships I created. I had 3 models set up like MK1..2...3 so on and by just having 8 MK1 with 2 atk each I was still more powerfull than all the others.

I guess I should have been clearer in what I was wondering. My question is: Have you had any AI declare war on you on a level of difficulty at or above intelligent (tough) and then not do anything at all? Not send any ships to attack and not send any ships to attempt to take over a planet. I mean in the game I described above I was far from the most powerful militarily which was the reason the Dregin decided to wipe me out. I just found it odd that the AI for the Iconians did nothing at that high of a level.

It happened to me against the Torians once. I was playing a neutral custom race (huge galaxy, 9 races)
The Torians randomly declared war on me and then did nothing for a LONG time. Possibly not a year in my case but getting close. Finally they attack with the most pitiful fleet you ever saw, it had 3 ships with 1 laser each and a troop transport. They had better technology than that, their report was showing harpoons and phasors.
I'm ashamed to say, it found one of my only planets close by still with an old defender and managed to kill it. Luckily I won the ground combat and kept the planet . Then things get really odd, next turn they attacked 2 of my front line worlds with similar fleets, both of which obviously died and they surrendered to me. Gifting me not only their dozen or so worlds but indirectly the Korx ones slightly to the south through influence a few months later.

it's always a bit shallow when players proudly talk about how superior they are - on levels like sub-normal.. duh
try tough if you want a challenge, stay to your sub-normal if you enjoy feeling like a half-god

This only happens to me when they are relatively far away, which usually means a civ or 3 between us.

That I can sort of understand. But in this game we shared a border to the east of my homeworld. And I've seen the AI do this on lower levels but this was the first time I had encountered it at the higher level. Like I said I was mostly just curious if this was a fluke or if it is more common then that.

It happens to mr on a regular basis in the early to midgame, I find I tend to ignore it only going so far as to place some sensor ship in their direction just in case.

Hell I once had the Korx declare war on three time without ever attacking.

I play at normal, gigantic, with various setting on stars, plantes etc.
