Same thing happens every game

I'm playing on normal and in every game I play, whether it be huge, gigantic, or small, all the races act the same. The Arceans and Torians expand like crazy while the Yor do nothing and neither does the Altarian or Terran alliance. It seems like the Torians and Arceans always just expand too quickly, and everyone else gets left behind? Should I try playing on a harder level? Because no one makes wars, there are no real galactic events of interest, and everyone just wates for me to make my move. Its sort of boring.

The aI's (all 9 of them) are much improved in the Beta 1.1 4 builds. 1.1 is scheduled to be released next week if it passes Q&A.

Check out the Journals here on the site - Draginol (aka Frogboy aka Brad Wardell) has some great posts on the new aI behavior.

Assuming you're winning these boring games, bumping up the difficulty would seem a logical decision.

Things change at the tough level. In the latest beta the AI is no push-over for me on tough. I can win on the smaller maps but I am playing a gigantic map and the outcome is very much in doubt.

I started a gigantic game on Challenging just to check out the difference and there is a huge difference apparent, at least this one game. The AI is a different animal at the higher level.

Map size also makes a big difference. On a small map I can usually win at any level simply by out colonizing the AI. Notwithstanding their econ cheats on the high levels they still tend to build too many scouts and if they don't get a decent share of the planets they are doomed. On the larger maps they are pretty much assured of getting their share and they are much better at planet developement and resource grabbing.

One thing I have noticed in the last beta is that by improving their priorities in certain areas they don't seem to go for anomalies as much. If you are playing with common or abundant anomalies it can make a huge difference by building fast survey ships and grabbing the goodie huts.

Anyone else believe the Arceans and Torians are on crack compared to the other races? It's not the diff they are cockroaches on any diff level.

In terms of colonizing yes they are. They are coded to be that way. Also I think they get a population growth bonus which helps them colonize faster without draining their planet's population. I for one am enjoying the new AI in what are we on now B4A? Got my *** handed to me yesterday by 5 intelligent opponents but mostly it was my own dumb mistakes based on older AI patterns. So I've dropped a diff notch to get a feel for what to expect. Once I get my barrings then *all your base are belong to us*

So far i play on a tiny map with all civs at sub-normal. See on another forum someone posted a hint on how to get past the high lvls. Heres the link.

You will have to research sensors until you unlock the survey module. Once you do that, you can put it on a hull, and you've got a survey ship. It's a big module, so be sure you have room for life support and engines, too.

ehh ... only thing that you need is warp drive, and sensors mark I and you can build a 9 speed survey surv module is 12 size ... build 2-4 depending on gal size and there you go - 10000 cash and when you scout some resources far away from your home jusdt upgrade the surveys into constructors and voilla
